Full job description

We are looking to appoint 1 x Assistant Gardener to join our Gardening Services maintenance team who have responsibility for the provision and maintenance of a wide range of garden services throughout the University Estate.

You will work within a small team who look after and tend to a section of grounds and gardens on the University estate. This is a varied role covering herbaceous gardens, mature lawns, open grassland, and nature woodlands. You will be required to work and maintain good working standards at all times, be responsible for the upkeep and cleaning of small tool and machinery, assist other Grounds & Garden personnel completing general duties as required.

You should be flexible in your approach, have achieved an SV2 (or equivalent) in a related horticultural discipline, with demonstrable post-qualification experience. You should have a sound knowledge of horticultural principles and gardening operations. Be an excellent communicator, highly motivated and have a helpful manner. You should also possess a clean driving licence. The ability to cope well when under pressure and the ability to demonstrate a flexible approach without supervision is essential. You should also be able to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
