Scone Estates are looking to appoint a motivated Apprentice Gardener to contribute to the maintenance and development of the historic gardens and grounds surrounding Scone Palace, a 5 star visitor attraction. The individual will need to be hard-working, take pride in their work and have a keen interest in horticulture.

In this role, you will be employed for a fixed-term period of 24 months and undertake an Apprenticeship, working towards a nationally recognised SCQF Level 5 or Level 6 qualification in Horticulture/Greenspace depending on your skills and abilities. You’ll have all the support you need to learn new skills whilst working alongside experienced team members. Whilst training is workplace based, you will be expected to undertake individual reflective learning to deliver the training outcomes.

The gardens and grounds contain a fine tree collection, Victorian Pinetum, maze, borders that contain an expanding plant collection and a Kitchen Garden that supplies fresh produce to the Palace catering team, thereby providing a range of practical horticultural experience across the different areas of the garden.

Applicants must be self motivated, passionate about the presentation of the gardens and grounds, be a positive communicative team member and possess the drive to work unsupervised. Weekend work will be required on a rota system.

Purpose of role:

To undertake and assist in the provision of excellent standards of garden and grounds maintenance and presentation as directed by the Head Gardener, whilst undertaking Apprenticeship training in SVQ Parks, Gardens and Green Space at SCQF Level 5 or Level 6 depending upon skill level identified.

- Enthusiasm for horticulture and committed to completing the apprenticeship training

- Willingness to work outside in all weathers and undertake physically demanding tasks

- Good with people, both colleagues and the general public as Scone Palace is a visitor attraction welcoming IRO 100,000 visitors every year

- Able to work flexibly both as part of a team and independently

- Proof of the right to work in the UK is required.
