Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader to join our established team in North Devon.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone with extensive horticultural knowledge who is confident leading teams and taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of both high-end private gardens and estates and large-scale commercial grounds maintenance contracts.

The role will include:

• Leading, supervising and organising teams on a daily basis.
• Planning workloads and ensuring works are completed efficiently, on time and to a high standard.
• Maintaining high-end private gardens, estates and commercial grounds.
• Using extensive plant, shrub and tree knowledge to manage and maintain planting schemes.
• Hedge cutting, pruning, planting, lawn care, border maintenance and all other aspects of horticulture.
• Confidently operating professional grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
• Monitoring standards across sites and identifying any work that needs to be carried out.
• Communicating professionally with clients, colleagues and management.
• Supporting our landscaping and tree surgery teams when required.
• Travelling to sites throughout Devon as part of the role.

Essential skills and experience:

• Significant professional horticultural and grounds maintenance experience.
• Excellent plant, shrub and tree knowledge.
• Previous experience leading, supervising or managing a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple sites and workloads.
• High standards of workmanship and excellent attention to detail.
• Confident using professional grounds maintenance machinery.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

• Horticultural qualifications, certificates or formal education such as RHS, NVQ or equivalent.
• PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates.
• Trailer towing entitlement / experience.
• Chainsaw qualifications.
• Landscaping and/or tree surgery experience.

Salary: Competitive – dependent on experience and qualifications.
