GARDENER

Private Country House – [County / Location]

Position: Full-time, permanent

Salary: 40,000.00

Reports to: Estate Manager / Head of Household

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Gardener to maintain and develop the gardens and grounds of a private country house. The successful candidate will take pride in presenting the estate to a consistently high standard year-round, working both independently and as part of a small grounds team.

Key Responsibilities

● Maintain lawns, borders, hedges, topiary, and formal planting schemes

● Manage kitchen garden/greenhouse production, if applicable

● Plan seasonal planting, pruning, and propagation programmes

● Operate and maintain garden machinery (mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters) safely

● Monitor plant health; manage pest, weed, and disease control

● Maintain pathways, terraces, and hard landscaping

● Assist with irrigation systems and general estate upkeep

● Liaise with Estate Manager on budgets, projects, and seasonal priorities

● Support occasional events (weddings, shoots, family gatherings) with garden presentation

Requirements

● Proven experience in a similar role, ideally on a private estate or country house

● RHS qualification (Level 2/3) or equivalent horticultural training preferred

● Strong plant knowledge and practical horticultural skills

● Full UK driving licence essential

● Chainsaw/PA1–PA6 spraying certificates advantageous

● Physically fit, flexible, and able to work outdoors in all weather

● Discreet, trustworthy, and comfortable working on a private family estate
