Chappell Enterprises UK is seeking a Grounds Person on behalf of our client, a prestigious institution known for its commitment to excellence, not just in education but also in maintaining a beautiful and safe environment. They take immense pride in the quality of their grounds and gardens, which play a crucial role in the overall experience of students, staff, and visitors. Our client is now seeking a dedicated and skilled Grounds Person to join their team and contribute to the upkeep of these exceptional surroundings.
The Role: As a Grounds Person, you will be responsible for maintaining the high standards of our client's lawns, sports pitches, gardens, and other outdoor spaces. Your duties will include:
- Routine maintenance of lawns, including fertiliser application, mowing, and ensuring overall health and appearance.
- Daily preparation and maintenance of sports pitches (football, rugby, cricket, athletics) to professional standards.
- Upkeep of hard and synthetic surfaces, including sweeping, blowing, and overmarking.
- Weed control, turf pest and disease management, and general gardening tasks such as weeding, planting, and leaf clearance.
- Assisting with the movement and maintenance of sports equipment (e.g., goals, cricket cages).
- Participating in the repair and replacement of fences and carrying out chainsaw work as required.
- General cleanliness and safety of all grounds.
Health and Safety:
- Adhere to machine operation instructions and safety protocols.
- Understand fire emergency procedures and muster points.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow COSHH regulations when handling hazardous chemicals.
- Participate in regular training to stay updated on safety and operational standards.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools safely.
- Knowledge of turf management, horticultural practices, and sports pitch preparation.
- A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Chainsaw operation qualification (desirable).
