Full job description
Horticultural Nursery Worker. Seasonal/Temporary
Tozer Seeds Ltd is an established vegetable plant breeding company based in the heart of Surrey. We develop new and improved vegetable varieties and supply seed to our global customer base of professional growers.
We are looking for seasonal workers to join our fabulous team of growers and trials technicians. As a seasonal worker you will be involved in a wide range of activities to support the production of vegetable seed crops and trials at our research facilities in Surrey. Work can be either inside a greenhouse or poly tunnel and in the open field. Candidates must have a willingness and capability to carry out physical work outdoors in all weathers.
The work is mainly located across sites in Cobham or Ripley in Surrey, and you will report to our Ripley site each day. For this reason, you must be able to reliably commute to Ripley using your own vehicle. Public transport is infrequent and unreliable to this area and so candidates with own transport will be at an advantage.
Normal business working hours are 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am to 3.00pm Friday.
The Role - including but not limited to:
Planting, Weeding, Harvesting and thrashing seeds
Installation/maintenance/using irrigation systems
Pest and disease control using pesticides an bio controls
Ground preparation using a range of machinery including tractors
General site maintenance/repairs
Record Keeping
Other essential crop/site work
Due to the seasonal nature of the business, this role requires some flexibility to assist in other parts of the business/depts.
The Ideal Candidate:
A genuine interest in Horticulture or previous work experience is highly desirable.
Physically fit and able to perform physical demanding work.
Self-motivated and works well within a team or solo.
Ability to work within the health and safety guidelines of the business.
Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
Able to work efficiently and follow instructions.
Candidate requirements:
Must have full clean driving license and access to own transport
Must be eligible and be able to show proof of right to work in the UK.
Must have a good level of spoken English.
Must be willing to work additional hours/overtime if required.
Practical hand/DIY skills would be an advantage.
Holds Basic IT skills, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
PA1 & PA6 sprayer license desirable but not necessary as training will be given to the right candidate.
Experience with operating/maintaining agricultural machinery is desirable but not necessary as training will be given to right candidate.
Willing to undertake all necessary and further training and certification to fulfil the role.
