Job Title: Garden Manager, South Devon

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to take on the role of Garden Manager, responsible for overseeing and maintaining the formal and wild gardens set in a large and diverse country estate. Whether you have prior experience leading a team or are ready to step into a supervisory position, we welcome applicants who are confident, dedicated, and have a strong passion for horticulture. The ideal candidate will have excellent garden knowledge, plant recognition, and a solid grasp of garden techniques, alongside a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliability. It is a hands-on position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all areas of the estate garden, including formal gardens, beds, rose gardens, parkland, orchards, and lakes.
  • Operate and maintain a range of garden machinery (mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers, etc.).
  • Ensure the upkeep of the garden to a high standard, performing regular groundskeeping duties such as mowing, edging, leaf blowing, and weeding.
  • Plant, nurture, and maintain flowers, trees, shrubs, and other plants.
  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides when necessary, following safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Monitor irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage.
  • Maintain and clean garden tools and equipment.
  • Assist in the implementation of garden and landscaping projects in collaboration with the Estate Manager and property owners.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in garden management or an eagerness to take on a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, garden maintenance, and horticultural techniques.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
