Full job description

Job Summary
Collaborate with the Works Manager to manage the Growing team, which reports to the Growing Consultant and Operations Director. Ensure that both personnel and equipment support the safe, efficient, and effective operations of the site. Oversee the cultivation of products according to production plans, ensuring that growing houses are stocked and products are cultivated on schedule to meet service orders while adhering to food safety and customer quality standards.

Responsibilities

The ideal person will have previous experience in a similar role; this may be in soft fruit or with a different edible horticultural crop. You'll be highly knowledgeable in crop production and have the confidence to make independent decisions and be happy to take the responsibility for these decisions. You'll be passionate about growing delicious food, have a positive and proactive approach to work and also be flexible on working hours. You'll also have excellent communication and IT skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

· Working with the Operations team to ensure all houses are filled, transferred and emptied as per KPI’s

· Train new members of the team on disease control and elimination

· Attend daily farm walks with other departments.

· Attending weekly planning meetings with the Growing consultant

· Ensuing that all growing operations are completed on time.

· Working with your team to achieve the best yield potential.

· Implement climate control and fertigation strategies.

· All crop husbandry work.

· Crop walking and scouting for pests and diseases.

· Enforcing & promoting excellent health & safety practice

· Ensure all completed work is safe and hygienic and complies with FSA and health and safety legislation

· To ensure GMP (good manufacturing practices) and housekeeping (clean as you go) are strictly adhered to.

· Drive own personal development through training and work-based experience.

· Help harvesting supervisors during busy times.

· Report on KPI figures during monthly meetings.

· Any other duties that may be required

Requirements

  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Supervising People / Projects.
  • Supervising & assisting in the management of H&S.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic approach
  • Strong organisational skills, and able to plan and structure work effectively in a demanding environment.
  • Have confidence to delegate work as appropriate
  • Sound IT skills to include MS Office (Outlook, Work and Excel)
  • A strong desire to learn and develop within a agricultural environment
  • A can do attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Recognise the importance of providing an excellent level of customer service and work as required, achieving the necessary results.

Must have:

  • Previous experience as a Grower working in a growing environment.
  • Previous experience as a Grower working in a chilled, fast paced FMCG environment.
  • BRC experience.
  • Experience with retailers audit protocol.
  • A sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation

Shift: Sunday to Thursday from 6.30am till around 4.30pm
