Garden Centre Assistant & Nursery Worker (Two to four weekdays plus every other weekend)

Come and join us at an independently run Nursery & Garden Centre in Fivehead (8 miles from Taunton and 5 miles from Langport.) We have a great team who are focused on plants and customer service. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to work 2-4 weekdays a week, plus every other weekend (Sat & Sun). With a 5-acre site of plants as well as a satellite site, it is a very active role perfect for anyone used to working outside with all the joys that nature throws at us!

Main Duties of Job

Customer service is key – are you a friendly, outgoing person? Do you know your garden plants well enough to be able to advise customers on plant selection?

Tills and computers – computer literacy is essential as we have a busy online hedging website, this would also involve answering the phones. Training will be provided.

We offer a carry to car service, with compost, pots, plants and anything the customer may need help with so you will need to be able to lift bags of compost and similar products.

Daily nursery tasks include, watering, weeding, sweeping, moving, potting and merchandising. Training can be given for all, and all members of staff are encouraged to learn as they go.

Helping with dispatch of orders - you must also be willing to help pull-out plants from our nursery beds, tidy them up and put them on pallets for sending out to customers.

Please note:

Many of these jobs involve lifting bags of compost, pots and plants, It is a very active job being on your feet for a full shift.

Applicants must:

Be able to work as a team and communicate well, particularly in busy periods.

Have enthusiasm for both sides of the job - garden centre assistant & nursery operative

Be able to work outdoors in all weathers

Most importantly have a willingness to learn and develop within the business

Working Hours

The Plant Centre’s opening hours are as follows:

9.00am – 5.30pm Monday to Saturday (9-5pm Jan & Feb)

10am – 4pm Sunday and Bank Holidays

You would be expected to arrive 5 mins before opening time to get ready for customers and stay until customers have left.

Work Days

Two to four weekdays plus every other weekend.

Salary

Pay will depend on qualifications and experience.
