Full job description

Hampton Gardens (formerly Hampton Court Castle Gardens) are set within an historic estate with extensive grounds, formal gardens, and exciting development projects.

We're looking for an Estate Gardener to join our team working across the whole estate and grounds. This will involve gardening on varied projects such as developing the river walks or undertaking hard/soft landscaping in the formal gardens.

The successful candidate will be adaptable and keen to learn new skills as well as have a background in working with machinery. You will be practically minded with certificates in chainsaw use and spraying. Horticultural experience including plant and propagation knowledge is also valuable.

This is a full-time position, working five days per week, including some weekend days.

What you’ll be doing

  • Garden Maintenance – Carry out routine gardening tasks such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing, weeding, hedge trimming, planting and mowing.
  • Hard/soft Landscaping – Support estate development projects, including work on a new visitor entrance and parking area.
  • Machinery Care – Perform routine maintenance on plant and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Health & Safety – Follow all operational procedures and maintain a safe working environment.

What you’ll need

  • Proven groundworks experience, with confidence in using garden maintenance equipment (some digger and MEWP experience preferred).
  • Chainsaw certification and practical experience using chainsaws safely.
  • High level of attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining the estate to the highest standards.
  • Great teamwork skills and the ability to build positive working relationships, including speaking to visitors.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and physically fit for demanding outdoor work.
