Full job description
Head Gardener – Patrick’s Patch, Beaulieu
About us:
Located in Beaulieu Village, Patrick’s Patch is an exceptional productive fruit and vegetable garden, which is open year-round for the public to visit for free.
Our garden provides an inspiring and educational location for local school children and visitors to learn about wildlife, where vegetables come from and how to grow them. We grow top and soft fruit as well as cut flowers.
The fruit and vegetables grown are used in Steff’s Kitchen our on-site Garden Centre café.
We operate the garden with a loyal group of volunteers with whom the Head Gardener works closely.
Patrick’s Patch is proud to run organically, embracing old and modern techniques
About you:
Your energy and passion about plants and growing vegetables is infectious. You have had some formal horticultural training or at least 3 years’ experience including vegetable growing.
You are a confident communicator, can easily liaise with teachers, encourage and inspire children and volunteers alike, whether delivering a workshop on sowing or explaining the contribution worms make to soil.
The role:
As the only paid team member of Patrick’s Patch, you need to be self motivated to work alone and as part of a team, carrying out a wide range of physical activities including soil preparation, planting, composting and pruning etc.
Regular contact needs to be maintained with our Garden Centre
The role is for 3 days per week working an average 21 hours/week to include Saturdays. Seasonal flexibility for when hours are worked would be an advantage.
Please email your current CV, a covering letter and details of your current salary to Lisa Smith at lisa@fairweathers.co.uk for further information call 01590 614945.
