The ideal candidate should be familiar with all types of landscape work and be able to tackle any challenge that comes their way. If you possess the necessary experience and skills, we would be thrilled to hear from you!
Every day will be different but your core working hours will be between 8.00am to 4:30pm with optional overtime based in Retford, Doncaster and surrounding areas.
Hours of Work
You will have the flexibility to enjoy a varied workday, with the assurance of a stable routine. Our core working hours are from 8:00am to 16:30pm, with the option of overtime to help you prioritise your work-life balance.
Main duties
The main duties of this job involve carrying out a range of gardening tasks daily. The tasks may vary depending on the project and client and will be determined by the Project Manager. Some of the tasks include soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, litter and debris clearing, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting, as well as lawn maintenance and cultivation. To perform these tasks, you will use a wide range of hand tools, horticultural machinery and powered hand tools such as lawn mowers, strimmer’s, hedge cutters, etc. You will be responsible for ensuring that all tools, garden equipment, and machinery are correctly maintained and serviced, and that they are kept in good and safe working order. You will assist with the construction of raised beds and use natural methods for plant protection and pest control, avoiding the use of chemicals and pesticides.
As part of your duties, you will be expected to practice Health and Safety legislation and ensure a safe working environment for everyone working or using the garden. You will keep the company van and tool sheds clean and tidy, and tools stored securely at all times. You will undergo training as required, and you must be competent, physically fit, and able to do hard manual labour. You should have a track record of creating and maintaining gardens, the ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools and be comfortable working in all weathers and seasons. You should be able to work well as part of a team or individually and have knowledge and experience of implementing Health and Safety rules and legislation.
You should also have a current and clean driving license, good communication skills, and a courteous personal manner towards clients and staff. It would be an advantage if you have knowledge and/or interest in the Permaculture Design approach, creativity and an eye for detail, and experience of identifying pests and diseases. You should also have an eagerness to learn and improve, and the ability to pass on knowledge and educate teams in the field.
