JOB TITLE: Horticultural Plant Manager and Sales Coordinator

CONTRACT 12 months Fixed-term (Maternity cover)

SALARY: £14.00 per hour

Sulney Nursery is an Industry leading Commercial Nursery providing high quality plants, shrubs and seasonal perennials to both members of the public and trade. Based in Upper Broughton near Melton Mowbray, we have been established for over 35 years and we have developed a reputation for exceptional quality and service that is second-to-none.

Sulney Nursery are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Horticultural Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the health, growth, and presentation of plants across our nursery facility, as well as overseeing the operations of the plant sales area. This position requires a deep understanding of plant care, maintenance, and sales strategies, with a focus on creating a thriving plant environment that attracts and engages customers.

Key Responsibilities:

:

1. Oversee the cultivation, care, and maintenance of a wide variety of plants including seasonal, perennial, and specialty plants.

2. Monitor plant health, identify any signs of pests or disease.

3. Ensure optimal watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest control routines.

4. Maintain plant displays to the highest standard, ensuring they are visually appealing, well-organized, and refreshed regularly.

5. Ensure appropriate stock rotation of plants, shrubs and other nursery items.

6. Coordinate with purchasing for the timely procurement of plants, seeds, and other horticultural materials.

7. Manage and maintain the plant sales area, ensuring that plants are healthy, organized, and priced correctly.

8. Create attractive, informative displays to promote seasonal plants and new stock.

9. Work closely with the sales team to educate and assist customers with plant selection, care instructions, and purchasing decisions.

10. Monitor inventory levels and liaise with management to restock popular items and introduce new varieties.

11. Keep accurate records of sales, plant health, and maintenance schedules.

12. Provide expert advice to customers regarding plant care, suitability for specific environments, and plant selection.

13. Develop and conduct workshops or educational sessions on gardening and plant care to enhance customer knowledge and engagement.

14. Respond to customer queries, offering tailored solutions to meet their horticultural needs.

:

15. Work collaboratively with the rest of the team to ensure a high standard of care and service across all departments.

16. Assist in the development and execution of promotional activities and seasonal events related to horticulture.

17. Support the broader team with horticultural expertise and contribute to strategic decisions on plant variety and layout.

18. Help with the nursery social media and marketing agenda.

19. You will have proven experience in horticulture, plant management, or a similar role (minimum 2-3 years).

20. In-depth knowledge of plant care, pest control, and maintenance techniques.

21. Familiarity with horticultural tools and equipment.

22. Excellent customer service and communication skills.

23. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

24. Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.

25. Relevant qualifications in horticulture, botany, or a related field are desirable.

:

This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months to cover maternity leave but employment beyond this period could be available.

The post is for 37.5 hrs per week, 5 days per week, working between 8am and 4pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s.

A valid UK driving license is required.
