Full job description

ABOUT US:
Cheshire’s first and premier sustainability-focussed horticulturists; gardening for people and planet.

Green Heart Horticultural Services is a Cheshire East based specialist gardening services provider, working for domestic and commercial clients throughout Cheshire East and beyond.

We’re continuing to grow (in every sense) – and THAT is where you come in!

  • We've got the clients...
  • We've got the tools (battery powered, naturally)...
  • We just need you!

We're building a horticulturist team who can work alone or as a team, to sprinkle our green heart magic on our client’s green spaces.

** Reasons Why We're An Amazing Place To Work **

1. A 4 day working week as standard (because, who wouldn't want a 3 day weekend every week?!)

2. Absolutely no micro-management BS!

3. Unrivalled in-house training and CPD programme and fully funded external training opportunities.

4. Our tools are all battery powered – no petrol fumes, less noise, less vibration and less weight.

5. We pay for your membership of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (subject to meeting membership criteria).

6. Career development and progression opportunities.

7. And all the usual stuff like holidays, performance bonuses, pensions etc.

PLUS: we actually help our clients to restore, grow, develop and realise their dream gardens – all in an environmentally and ecologically mindful way - that always feels like a pleasure!

** Is this the single GREATEST gardening job in the entire WORLD?! **
Probably.... maybe... you tell me! ;)

And here's why:
We're not a ‘mow and go’. We're gardening experts who are highly regarded for providing a professional, reliable and skilful service.

Your client list includes gardens of all shapes and sizes, with jobs from planting to pruning, mulching to mowing and everything in between.

You will be helping to preserve and encourage horticultural skills which are at risk of being lost.

PLUS: call us biased, but we have the best clients!

Let's Talk Money:

After all, that’s really why we go to work :-D We are open Monday – Friday and but all our gardening teams work a 4 day week as standard, because it's a physical job so we all need to look after ourselves.

This role will be working Tuesday - Friday each week and typically a 35ish hour working week (it varies seasonally).

So we'd expect you to be earning £2,000+ per month.

* The Perfect Candidate Will Tick The Boxes Below: *

  • You'll care deeply about doing a good job.
  • You’ll enjoy being outdoors in all weathers (no fair-weather gardening here!).
  • You'll want to develop a career in ‘proper gardening’.
  • You’ll enjoy learning and developing (none of us know it all – even Monty Don #unpopularopinion)
  • You'll have experience of leading a team and supporting/training junior staff.
  • You'll have read this job description and thought "OMG this is the job for me!!"
  • You'll be motivated to do gold-standard work every day!
  • PLUS: You'll be reliable, hard-working and all the usual stuff too!

(if you can't tell the difference between a plant and a weed, this ain't for you!)

WHAT YOUR TYPICAL DAY WILL LOOK LIKE:

8:00am: Start the trip to your first client.
8:20am: Unload tools from the van for the first job of the day.
8:30am: Crack on with the first job, working through the task list in your calendar entry (don’t worry, we sort that bit in advance for you!)

10:30am: Finish at your first client.
10:45am: The tools are all back on the van (double check they are!), you head to the next job.

10:55am: Arrive at garden number 2 and start unpacking the tools.
11:00am: Gardening time (Ding ding, round 2!)
12:30pm: Lunch (you can take this whenever it suits for your diary, this is just an example!!)
1:00pm: Gardening time again!
2:00pm: Time to pack up the van (after a nice chat with another lovely client).
2:20pm: Arrive at the last client.

2:30pm: Start on the last job (this one’s easy, it just a quick mow and weeding a few small borders)
4:30pm: All done at the final job – time to pack the van up again and head home!

*every day will be different and you'll be in charge/responsible for your schedule :)

The Nitty Gritty:
We work mainly in gardens around Crewe and Nantwich, with occasional work further afield (e.g. North and South Staffordshire, and further afield in Cheshire, recently). It's always varied and always outside – sorry, we don’t control the weather sadly, so some days it’ll be cold/wet/windy [delete as appropriate] but we’re hardy perennials here!

We don’t work weekends (yay!).

You will be responsible for supervising junior staff, including Apprentices and Trainee Horticulturists.

We're looking for someone who can be in-situ and ready to go as soon as possible.

Want to know more?
Just ask!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
