The Opportunity

This role will support the delivery of excellent care within Dovestone Gardens, by providing a high standard of repair, presentation, and readiness of the building.

  • Conduct regular maintenance and Health and safety inspections of the site to identify works.
  • Provide a prompt maintenance and repair service for the building with a view to handling jobs at firstpoint of contact. Liaise with Facilities and/or Repairs service for jobs beyond scope/responsibility of role.
  • Ensure contractors, vendors, and service providers are inducted onto the site and adherence to the site code of conduct and Calico values.
  • Support the Housing with Care Manager with on site requirements with regards to health and safety regulations and standards, including COSHH.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections and repairs.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials for the building. Carrying out scheduled checks aligned with regulatory requirements in relation to building safety and personal care such as fire alarm, emergency lighting, water hygiene, this list not exhausted.
  • Attending to general building maintenance, upkeep and repairs as required such as: blocked toilets/sinks/basins, replacement light bulbs, painting/cleaning, maintenance of fixtures and fittings; this list not exhausted.
  • Undertaking a programme of cyclical painting/decorating/deep cleaning as required including carpets, kitchen equipment and blinds.
  • Inducting and facilitating contractors on site, ensuring safe methods of working and to ensure all paperwork is completed and any remedial work is acted upon e.g., lift maintenance, legionella testing, fire, and security.
  • To attend call outs as necessary out of hours
  • Prioritising work daily and ensuring that high levels of customer service are always delivered
  • Maintaining an inventory of tools and equipment stored at Dovestone Gardens.
  • Maintain and clean all tools and equipment ensuring that they are kept in a safe and efficient working condition.
  • Store tools as instructed and report any losses of or damage to company tools to your line manager immediately
  • Ensuring risk assessments/procedures/work instructions applicable to the role, are kept up to date and reviewed as required. In addition to carrying out dynamic risk assessments where required to ensure risks are identified and removed
  • Maintaining confidentiality and data protection in line with requirements
  • Attending all appropriate training and keeping up to date with current regulations

What We’re Looking For

  • Relevant experience as a handyperson, building maintenance multi-trade, repair and refurbishment or equivalent qualification
  • Be willing to take relevant training in health and safety, COSHH, manual handling or equivalent
  • Experience of general building maintenance including repairs, e.g., joinery, plumbing and electrical safety
  • Experience of carrying out building health and safety checks such as fire alarm, legionella etc.
  • Driving licence and willingness to use own vehicle
  • Building compliance and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Confidence in working with contractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate the quality of workmanship.
  • A track record of being able prioritise, multi-task and take ownership for work.
  • Ability to source and maintain materials, goods and parts as required and adhere to purchasing guidance.
  • Engage professionally with all staff and customers and build trusting relationships – patience and understanding will be key.
  • Experience of facilities services in an office environment
  • Proficient in painting, decorating, carrying out general repairs and cleaning to a high standard.
  • Knowledge around Health and Safety in respect of buildings maintenance and safe working practices.
  • Familiar in maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
  • Experience of working in a challenging environment, whilst producing quality results and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Experience working as part of a team but also using own initiative and with the minimum of supervision, with an excellent level of attention to detail.
