Full job description

Skyhook Helicopters – Fife Airport

The Role

Skyhook Helicopters is an ISO-accredited specialist aerial lifting business, providing helicopter lifting and support services throughout the UK and Ireland. We hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications.

We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team, based at Fife Airport.

No two days are the same. Plans change, priorities move and there is usually plenty going on. We need someone who can see the bigger picture, think ahead, make decisions and deal with problems as they arise.

We are a busy and growing business, with aircraft, pilots, ground crews and vehicles regularly working across the UK and Ireland. Good planning, communication and organisation are essential to keeping everything running smoothly.

This is a varied, hands-on management role within a small team. You will be involved in coordinating day-to-day operations, managing people and resources, overseeing our Fife base and supporting the commercial side of the business, while ensuring our operational and facilities procedures are maintained in line with our ISO standards.

You will work closely with existing and potential clients, building strong relationships, understanding their requirements and identifying opportunities to bring new business into Skyhook. You will also be involved in coordinating enquiries and ensuring jobs are properly planned, communicated and followed through.

Main Responsibilities

Operations & Logistics

  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day helicopter operations.
  • Organise pilots, ground crews, vehicles and equipment across the UK and Ireland.
  • Coordinate travel, accommodation and logistical arrangements.
  • Work closely with pilots, ground crews and engineers to ensure jobs are properly planned and delivered.
  • Work closely with the existing Operations Coordinator to coordinate operational planning, staff deployment, bookings and logistics.

Commercial & Client Relationships

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Handle incoming enquiries and assist with preparing quotations.
  • Understand client requirements and coordinate with the operational team to establish what is required.
  • Follow up enquiries and quotations and maintain regular communication with clients.
  • Assist with job costing, commercial records and tracking project progress.
  • Identify opportunities for additional work and business development.
  • Understand the commercial implications of operational decisions and ensure work is delivered efficiently and profitably.

Facilities & General Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the Fife base, buildings and facilities.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment and facilities are maintained and ready for use.

· Support the maintenance of our ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) management systems.

· Ensure relevant operational and facilities records, inspections, maintenance schedules and procedures are kept up to date in line with our ISO requirements.

  • Oversee operational paperwork, records and reporting.
  • Help maintain company procedures and health and safety standards.
  • Identify problems before they arise and find practical solutions.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

  • Previous experience managing people and teams.
  • Good logistical and planning experience.
  • Experience dealing with clients and building strong business relationships.
  • A sound commercial understanding, including costs, margins and pricing, with the ability to balance operational requirements against commercial considerations to ensure work is delivered efficiently and profitably.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Confidence managing several priorities at once.
  • Common sense, initiative and a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft packages.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Scotland and the wider UK.

Desirable

  • Experience in aviation, construction, utilities or transport.
  • Experience managing buildings, facilities or vehicle fleets.
  • Experience with quotations, job costing and commercial administration.
  • Knowledge of health and safety systems, method statements and lift plans.
  • Experience in helicopter operations or underslung load work.

Previous aviation experience is not essential. We are looking for the right management experience, commercial understanding and attitude. Training in our specialist helicopter operations will be provided. Candidates without previous aviation or ground crew experience will be expected to spend time working alongside our existing personnel to understand the practical side of the business.

The Person

We are a small team, and everyone plays their part. We need someone who is organised, approachable, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility.

You will need to communicate well with staff and clients, keep a cool head when things get busy and be happy to get involved when needed.

You should be commercially minded, able to build relationships and understand that keeping the business moving means looking after both our customers and our people.

A sense of humour is definitely an advantage!

Working Hours & Location

The normal working hours are Monday to Friday. The role is based at our Fife Airport office, with visits to clients or job sites as required.

Some flexibility is needed. With aircraft, crews and vehicles working across the UK and Ireland, things don't always go to plan. There may occasionally be a need to take a call or deal with an operational issue outside of normal hours to help keep things moving.

Candidates must live, or be willing to relocate, to within approximately 60 minutes of Fife Airport.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary dependent on experience.
  • Helly Hansen Workwear.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Training and development within a specialist helicopter business.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Private dental insurance
  • Private medical insurance

Experience:

  • people management: 1 year (preferred)

Work Location: In person
