Estate Warden & Multi-Skilled Operative

Full Time | Merthyr Mawr Estate

We are a busy and diverse rural estate on the South Wales coast, encompassing historic buildings, agricultural land, woodland, events and hospitality businesses as well as holiday accommodation.

We are seeking a practical, dependable and highly motivated individual to join our estate team as an Estate Warden & Multi-Skilled Operative.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, has a strong work ethic and enjoys variety. No two days are the same. The successful candidate will be proactive, capable of working independently and committed to maintaining the estate to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Estate Maintenance

  • Carry out the day-to-day maintenance of grounds and facilities.
  • Support the upkeep of our seasonal camping and events infrastructure, including drainage systems, water points, furniture, kitchen & washroom facilities.
  • Undertake routine repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Identify issues before they become problems and take appropriate action.

Grounds & Infrastructure

  • Fence repairs and installation.
  • Maintenance of estate tracks and access routes.
  • Water supply network repairs and maintenance.
  • General estate improvements and seasonal projects.
  • Occasional tree and woodland works, including basic chainsaw duties (relevant qualifications desirable).

Plant & Machinery Operation

  • Operate and maintain estate machinery safely and efficiently, including:
  • Excavator
  • Tractors and attachments
  • Carry out routine machinery checks and report defects promptly.

Events Support

The estate hosts weddings, festivals, sporting events and private functions throughout the year.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist with event set-up and breakdown.
  • Respond to operational issues during events.
  • Work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays when required.

You will be someone who:

  • Has a practical, hands-on approach and enjoys solving problems.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and takes ownership of tasks from start to finish.
  • Is reliable, punctual and self-motivated.
  • Can work independently without close supervision.
  • Has excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Is physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards.
  • Is flexible and willing to adapt to the changing demands of estate life.
  • Works well as part of a small team and contributes positively to the wider business.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in a similar maintenance, agricultural, landscaping or estate role.
  • Experience operating and maintaining plant and machinery.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays to support the estate's events programme.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Tractor and 8 tonne excavator.
  • Chainsaw.
  • Pesticide spraying.
  • First Aid.
  • Experience working within hospitality, events or visitor attractions.
