20 hours per week rate of pay £13,829 Pro rata - (£25,584 FTE)

Job Overview

Due to the current postholder retiring, we are looking for a hardworking, trustworthy and committed caretaker, who takes pride in their work and enjoys a welcoming workplace, where their efforts are valued. The successful candidate will be responsible for the security of our client's school, the related health and safety procedures, the maintenance, and the overall cleaning within the school on a daily basis. Good DIY skills would be advantageous. The post holder will be responsible for opening the school up in the mornings and securing it every evening.

This post holder will be employed by the client school, on a part-time basis - working all year round. There will be no staff or budget responsibilities, however, relevant experience in a similar or related role is essential. Training will be available for aspects of the job to ensure compliance with health and safety at work. Visits to the school site are encouraged, to be arranged through Connect Education.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the security of school buildings and site
  • Responsible for cleaning all areas within the school to a high standard
  • Act as a designated key holder, opening the school every day and providing out of hours and emergency access to the school site
  • Responsible for regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment
  • Responsible for regular maintenance checks and follow-up actions
  • Oversee and liaise with contractors whilst onsite and ensure agreed work is undertaken as specified in the contract
  • Liaise with School Office re purchases and supplies (following stock takes) within agreed budget
  • Responsible for the regular checking and operation of systems such as heating, cooling, lighting, fire and security alarms
  • Ensure compliance within the school with all health and safety COSHH regulations, and follow any associated Risk Assessments
  • Liaise with Headteacher and school office on all premises issues.

Skills (Essential)

  • Considerable knowledge of a broad range of practical tasks associated with a caretaking environment together with the operation of associated tools and equipment. British Institute Of Cleaning Science Certificate of Proficiency (L1) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relating to a caretaking environment.
  • Previous relevant experience in a similar or related role
  • Literacy skills sufficient to read text and write straightforward sentences
  • Numeracy skills sufficient to undertake straightforward arithmetic functions
  • Strength, dexterity and co-ordination to use a range of cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Ability to plan and organise staff and resources, including effective use of own time.
  • Resourceful and works with initiative and without constant supervision
  • Appropriately follows instructions to achieve set objectives
  • Customer care skills
  • Reliable and keeps good time
  • Adapts to change by adopting a flexible and cooperative attitude
  • Supportive and adapts to team working
  • Demonstrates integrity and upholds values and principles
  • Promotes equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice in all aspects of work
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Skills (Desirable)

  • NVQ in General Maintenance and Housekeeping or equivalent. British Institute Of Cleaning Science assessor’s qualification or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in a caretaking environment
  • Supervision of cleaning staff.
  • A willingness to undertake job related training.
