About The Role


We are looking for a qualified employment solicitor to join our growing Legal team as Legal Counsel. The role would suit a solicitor of at least 2 years’ PQE from experience in a law firm or in-house legal department in England or Wales. In this varied role reporting to our General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer, you will work closely with our HR team advising the business on employment claims and strategy and providing some corporate support.

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with requirement to regularly attend our newly refurbished office in Leeds, LS15 area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising the business on strategies to minimise employment claims;
  • Managing employment tribunal claims alongside the HR team including representing the business at hearings;
  • Assisting with management and updating of legal precedents and policies;
  • Advising on transfers of employees under TUPE regulations;
  • Participating in business projects working with our General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer to provide guidance and commercial solutions to ensure that legal issues don’t become barriers;
  • Building relationships with commercial colleagues and embedding awareness of employment law risk management;
  • Dealing with external advisors, including preparing instructions to and liaising with external lawyers; and
  • Participating in corporate support work.

To be successful in this role you will require the following…

  • A solicitor qualified in England & Wales with at least 2 year’s post qualification experience in England or Wales at a regional, national or international firm in an employment department. Applications from applicants without this experience will not be progressed.
  • Experience of representing employers in employment tribunals as the principal advocate.
  • Good knowledge of TUPE regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with confidence in their ability and drive to be part of a fast paced and growing business.
