Our purpose and mission statement

My Future Matters Ltd is a trauma informed specialist provider for children and young people; we have enjoyed creating our first bespoke trauma informed home that provides a therapeutic nurturing environment for all gender identities between the ages of 9 years to 17 years of age while they recover, repair and develop from their past trauma experiences.

Our newly registered children’s home, Sacred Place offers 3 young people a home providing specialist residential care, therapy and education services. It is a thoughtful, well designed therapeutic home in a rural setting, offering 4 acres of outdoor space and therapeutic spaces for example a snug, sensory space, games room and a music and arts room for creative and therapeutic expression and experiences.

The home offers care for young people with emotional, behavioural difficulties and mental health conditions, with complex trauma conditions/experiences who need additional support. Most young people within the home could be on or in the past experienced being on a deprivation of liberty safeguard order, which has been crucial in ensuring to keep themselves safe. Therefore, coming to the home will be a crucial stage in their journey where they need a safe therapeutic space to have an intensive bespoke level of therapeutic care to aid their trauma recovery.

We strive to deliver great care and service to the young people we care/support to achieve their full potential to improve future outcomes, quoting one young person in our home “because my future matters!”.

Therefore, it is vital we find the ‘perfect fit’ Registered Manager to help steer, develop and grow the team and service at Sacred Place in Horam, East Sussex (Residential Children’s Home). The key role of the Registered Manager ensures we meet our Statement of Purpose with particular emphasis on providing a person-centred trauma informed therapeutic service and is responsible for delivering and improving all operational aspects of the home, and developing a skilled and effective team.

This is a full-time position and following a successful 6 months’ probationary period, we will be offering a permanent position with the My Future Matters Ltd company.

About you

Our ideal candidate will share the same values and ethics and drive to embrace the trauma informed approach in their everyday practice. We would be looking for someone with experience in managing Residential Children’s Homes, with a minimum of two years’ experience as a registered Manager within an Ofsted registered home.

The registered manager will have a passion and proven ability to contribute to positive and exceptional achieved outcomes; a very capable person with proven ability in managing staff, operations, and most importantly putting the welfare and happiness of our children and young people at the forefront of everything we do.

The right person will be experienced in working with young people in a residential setting who have suffered trauma, and is an accomplished leader, ensuring that all staff remain positive, empowered and focused on the needs and welfare of the children.

The right person will also have a proven appetite for service and staff development, and a passion for their own growth and development. We welcome them to make the home their own and be comfortable and confident with all that this entails. The right person will demonstrate the skills and ability to work with all services, local authorities, professionals, staffing, young people and their families. Furthermore, skilled in, organise and administrate the required documents and regulatory paperwork, maintain good relationships with placement teams and LA management, recruit great staffing team, maintain the company’s positive reputation improving referrals being received and fulfil the Statement of Purpose is essential.

It is key for they also will be open to undergoing extensive training in trauma and attachment informed approach with extensive support in driving the service/team by a specialist therapeutic service, Beacon House.

The Core Responsibilities will be:

  • Meet the Statement of Purposes of the Registered Home
  • Strive on achieving an ‘outstanding Ofsted rating’ meeting all regulatory expectation and outcomes of the young person who is the centre of our service
  • To lead in staff management, shift allocation, recruitment and selection.
  • To ensure that care and pathways plans are affective, outcomes and needs are being met of all the children in the home, with the support of the therapeutic network
  • To organise, arrange and deliver training and induction to the team that achieves team and individual development.
  • To ensure your managerial supportive duties are met, regular and timely supervision and appraisals.
  • To maintain positive relationships and positive interface with stakeholders, social workers and Local Authority for each child’s placement.
  • Manage placement referrals and logistics with the support of the responsible individual. To lead on the identification, assessment and admission of new children to the home, ensuring that effective impact matching risk assessments are completed.
  • To ensure to follow the matching and referral policies and procedures are adhered to, ensuring affective impact risk assessments have taken place as young people matching in our homes is key in ensuring reduce risks of placement breakdowns, which can have traumatic repercussions for the young people and team
  • To work with our Therapeutic service at Beacon house to ensure Trauma informed training is delivered, the team access the reflective therapeutic supervision and undertake therapeutic case formulation to understand the young persons trauma experience and create SMART plans.
  • To report to and work with the Service Lead/Responsible Individual and Practice Manager, as well as the Support Management in a positive and collaborative way and ability to receive feedback for the home and professional development.
  • To ensure the highest level of safeguarding in both recruitment, management of staff and children.
  • Attending reviews and placement planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people
  • To provide out-of-hours and on-call services as required by the service.
  • To meet the KPI's of the service, with specific focus on retention, referrals/ occupancy and achieved ratings whilst serving the needs of the children and young people as our ultimate focus.
  • To ensure all recorded information in your home conforms to statutory requirements and is of a high standard
  • To manage and oversee the daily routine and programmes for young people ensuring these are carried out consistently by all care team members and remain in line with care plans
  • To manage the financial matters of your home and teams such as weekly budgets, transport, time sheets, sickness and annual leave
  • To ensure monthly and six-monthly regulation 44 audits / reviews are completed
  • To participate in an out-of-hours support system
  • To manage your homes rotas, monitor your teams training and organise and attend care team meetings providing minutes of same
  • To produce COSHH, Risk Assessments and Health & Safety processes on your home
  • To participate in disciplinary procedures
  • To provide an annual homes development review report
  • Complete weekly social work reports, monthly manager health and safety audits and manager monthly home review reports, along with regulation 45 reports every 6 months.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of the safeguarding policy.
  • Ensure that staff understand what constitutes a safeguarding issue, how to identify it and how to report it.
  • Undertake advanced level training in safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ensure that staff understand their duty to not promise absolute confidentiality at any time when a disclosure has been made to them, and to report any concerns.
  • Ensure that visiting professionals or outside agencies understand their duty to not promise absolute confidentiality and are aware of how to report a concern.
  • Develop relationships with other safeguarding professionals such as the LADO
  • Take a lead role, when necessary, to investigate and deal with all cases of suspected or actual problems associated with child protection, including attending child protection conferences or strategy meeting as necessary
  • Keep up to date will all new guidance on safeguarding children.
  • Keep all staff up to date with any changes to procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, secure and up-to-date records of cases or concerns.
  • Organise appropriate training for staff including CSE, FGM, Prevent, self-harming behaviour.
  • Complete and regularly update any welfare risk assessments which outline procedures in place to minimise risk.
  • Survey the staff annually on the policy.
  • Work closely with the RI on child protection.
  • Annually review the policy with the responsible individual and other professionals
  • Consult with young people, parents and placing social workers on their views of safeguarding within the provision
  • Ensure safer recruitment practice is adopted
  • Ensure all necessary health and safety certification is in place and equipment maintained to the relevant standard
  • Ensure staff and young people know how to evacuate in an emergency and practice this regularly
  • Discuss openly any issues in supervision that could be construed as a safeguarding issue
  • Ensure generic and individual risk assessments accurately reflect current risks and control measures and this is reflected in the placement plan

Responsibilities Concerning Premises

  • Advise the registered provider of any malfunction of the heating, lighting or emergency systems and ensure the security of the premises.
  • Ensuring that the fire regulations are complied with and advising the responsible person if there are areas of risk.
  • Ensuring that legislation and regulations concerning environmental health, infection control, building control, planning and health and safety are complied with, and advising the responsible person accordingly where action is required.
  • Assessing young people spaces with regard to health and safety and infection control issues and providing advice to staff regarding safe and healthy working practices in the field.

CONFIDENTIALITY & DATA PROTECTION

The Registered Manager must maintain the confidentiality of information about children and young people, staff and other professional service businesses and meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) at all times. The post-holder must comply with all company Information and Data Protection policies at all times.

All staff must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974.

Person specification — Essential criteria

  • Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions within statutory requirements
  • Ability to effectively manage the time and priorities of self and others.
  • Ability to interpret and act on complex information and to produce high quality documents with limited guidance.
  • Ability to use IT software to a professional standard for general office duties, e.g. Report writing and undertaking research.

The following qualities are considered essential for the post of service manager:

  • at least two years’ experience in a senior management capacity within the previous five years

  • 5 years within a Residential Children's Home setting

  • 2 years as a Registered Manager
  • Experience of working with traumatised young people
