We are looking for a practical, dependable person who enjoys solving problems, getting stuck in and helping a busy place run beautifully. From everyday repairs and grounds upkeep to moving furniture for an event, this is a varied role for someone with strong all-round skills and a can-do attitude.

About The Sherborne:

The Sherborne is home to the arts in the South West. We are an independent arts charity, bringing together exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, heritage, food and community events in a remarkable historic house and its grounds. Our programme is locally rooted and nationally significant, and we want everyone who comes through our doors to feel welcome. As our programme and team grow, we need an extra pair of capable hands to help care for the place and keep it working at its best.

What you will get stuck into:

• Carrying out day-to-day repairs, maintenance and practical jobs across the building and grounds, with DIY completed to a good standard.
• Keeping outdoor areas tidy, safe and welcoming, and helping with routine and seasonal grounds tasks.
• Spotting problems early, working out sensible solutions and knowing when specialist help is needed.
• Supporting room changes and event set ups, including moving furniture and equipment and helping the team reset spaces afterwards.
• Using tools and equipment safely and looking after them properly.
• Responding flexibly to the needs of a live venue, where plans can change and the unexpected sometimes happens.
• Working closely with colleagues across the organisation and helping wherever practical support is needed.
• Keeping work areas clean and tidy and reporting any safety, repair or maintenance concerns promptly.

• You have strong general maintenance and practical skills, and can turn your hand to a broad range of jobs.
• You take pride in doing things properly and have a calm, common sense approach to problem solving.
• You are self motivated, organised and comfortable working independently without needing close supervision.
• You are reliable, approachable and a genuine team player.
• You are flexible about when and how you work, including some evenings and weekends by agreement.
• You are willing to go the extra mile when the team needs help, whether that is fixing a problem, preparing for an event or moving furniture.
• You understand the importance of health and safety and can work carefully in a historic public building.
• You do not need to be a specialist in everything. Broad practical competence, good judgement and the right attitude matter most to us. Experience in a similar maintenance, facilities, caretaking or grounds role would be useful.

This is a permanent, part-time position for a minimum of 15 hours a week, with the exact hours and working pattern to be agreed. Flexibility is important: the role will include some evening and weekend work to support events and the wider programme.

The job is active and includes lifting, carrying and moving furniture and equipment. All work should be carried out safely, with suitable equipment and support where needed. We welcome conversations about reasonable adjustments.
