About Us

Nestled in one of England’s most picturesque conservation villages along the banks of the River Brett, The Peacock Inn is a critically acclaimed 14th-century, Grade II-listed timber-framed pub with rooms.

We aren’t your typical country pub. Backed by standout national reviews (Michelin Guide, Telegraph), we are an ambitious, vibrant culinary destination. We blend medieval beams, York stone floors, and roaring fires with an unpretentious, hyper-seasonal dining experience led by Head Chef Sam Clover.

With 7 boutique bedrooms, an idyllic riverside garden, private event spaces, and an enthusiastic, warm team, we are proud to be both a cherished community hub and a premier Suffolk staycation retreat.

The Opportunity & Future Vision

We are looking for an inspiring, hands-on, and commercially savvy General Manager to take the reins and drive The Peacock Inn into its next chapter of growth.

Whether continuing to refine our award-winning food and wine pairings, growing mid-week occupancy and private event bookings, or mentoring a close-knit front-of-house team, you will have genuine autonomy to shape the guest journey and grow the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead from the Front: Deliver genuine, warm, and attentive hospitality that keeps locals coming back and makes destination diners feel right at home.
  • Operational Leadership: Oversee day-to-day operations across the restaurant, cosy bar, 7 boutique bedrooms, and private hire events.
  • Collaborative Pairing: Work hand-in-hand with Head Chef Sam Clover and our kitchen brigade to showcase seasonal Suffolk produce, champion our wine and beverage programs, and deliver seamless service.
  • Business & Revenue Growth: Manage wage percentages, stock control, GP targets, direct room bookings, and local marketing initiatives to drive quality and commercial performance.
  • Team Development: Recruit, train, and inspire front-of-house staff, cultivating a positive, high-standards working culture with zero pretension.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure exemplary food safety, health & safety, licensing compliance, and property presentation.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Proven Hospitality Leader: Experience as a General Manager, Deputy GM, or Operations Manager within a quality-led, food-focused pub, boutique hotel, or rosette-standard restaurant.
  • Passion for Food & Wine: A genuine appreciation for modern British cuisine, seasonal dining, craft drinks, and curated wine lists.
  • Commercial Acumen: Confident managing P&L, rotas, stock, budgets, and operational KPIs.
  • Hands-on Host: Someone who thrives on the floor during busy weekend services and loves interacting with guests.
  • Location: Due to our rural village setting in Chelsworth, your own reliable transport is essential.

What We Offer

  • Highly competitive salary package.
  • Temporary accommodation/relocation support
  • Autonomy to make a lasting mark on a celebrated, independent business.
  • Staff discounts on dining and accommodation.
  • Dedicated support from the business owners and kitchen leadership.
  • Beautiful working environment in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
