If you’re a high-energy, results-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, this is your chance to make a real impact!
Core accountability: The postholder owns the full venue portfolio outcomes while delivering effective leadership, data, governance and management teams.
Role Description
As a senior leader within CleanEvent Services, the General Manager is responsible for the overall performance, profitability, compliance, client satisfaction and operational outcomes of a portfolio of venues within the Presentation division.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the role provides leadership, direction and governance to operational management and administrative teams, ensuring all contracts are delivered safely, compliantly and profitably whilst meeting client expectations and agreed service standards.
The General Manager retains ultimate responsibility for venue outcomes, including service delivery, workforce productivity, financial performance, client relationships, compliance, reporting and continuous improvement. Success in the role is achieved through effective leadership, stakeholder management, performance oversight and the use of operational and financial data to support informed decision-making.
Whilst the role requires a visible leadership presence across the venue and support for key events where required, it is primarily focused on business management, reporting, commercial performance, client engagement, strategic planning, business intelligence and the development of management teams in conjunction with the day-to-day operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Stakeholder Management
- · Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships with clients across the venue portfolio.
- · Act as the senior operational contact for clients, ensuring contractual commitments and service expectations are consistently achieved.
- · Lead regular business review meetings, presenting operational, commercial, compliance and service performance clearly and professionally.
- · Identify opportunities for service enhancement, innovation, efficiencies and contract growth.
- · Ensure customer satisfaction remains a key driver across all venues.
- · Manage escalated issues professionally and drive timely resolution.
- · Maintain a thorough understanding of client objectives and align operational delivery accordingly.
Leadership & People Management
- · Provide leadership, direction and support to management teams.
- · Build high-performing management teams through coaching, mentoring, development and succession planning.
- · Ensure appropriate recruitment, onboarding, development and retention strategies are implemented across the venue portfolio.
- · Drive accountability throughout management teams through clearly defined objectives, KPIs and performance measures.
- · Ensure HR, conduct, capability and employee relations matters are managed appropriately and in line with company policies.
- · Promote a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, professionalism and operational excellence.
- · Ensure appraisals, development plans and training requirements are completed, monitored and acted upon.
Operational & Contract Performance
- · Maintain overall accountability for service delivery and contractual performance across the venue.
- · Ensure contracted cleaning, presentation and waste management services consistently meet agreed standards, client expectations and contractual obligations.
- · Monitor operational delivery and implement corrective actions where required.
- · Ensure all contracts operate efficiently, safely and in accordance with company procedures, client requirements and statutory obligations.
- · Conduct planned venue reviews, audits and operational assessments to identify risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- · Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality, operational efficiency, and profitability.
- · Maintain a visible leadership presence across the venue, events and key client engagements.
- · Ensure appropriate contingency planning, event readiness and operational resilience measures are implemented across all venues.
Performance, Analytics & Business Intelligence
- · Own operational, financial and workforce performance reporting across the venues.
- · Analyse operational, commercial and workforce data to identify trends, risks, opportunities and improvement initiatives.
- · Develop and maintain KPI frameworks, performance dashboards, management information and executive reporting packs.
- · Use Power BI and other reporting tools to transform complex datasets into clear, meaningful and actionable business insight. Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI is highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.
- · Monitor labour productivity, attendance trends, compliance metrics, customer feedback, service performance and financial outcomes.
- · Analyse contract profitability and identify opportunities to improve margin, productivity and operational efficiency.
- · Support annual budgeting, forecasting and strategic business planning processes through accurate data analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
- · Produce monthly, quarterly and annual performance summaries for the Regional Manager and senior leadership team.
- · Drive a data-led culture across venue management teams, ensuring key decisions are supported by evidence and measurable outcomes.
- · Ensure the accuracy, integrity and effective use of data within company systems including workforce management, finance and operational platforms.
- · Present business performance findings, risks and recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders.
Financial & Commercial Management
- · Maintain accountability for financial performance across the venue portfolio.
- · Deliver contracts in line with agreed budgets, profitability targets and business objectives.
- · Monitor labour costs, expenses, revenue performance, gross margin and overall contract performance.
- · Review financial reports and performance data monthly, identifying areas of concern and implementing recovery plans where necessary.
- · Provide clear financial commentary, forecasts and improvement plans to the Regional Manager.
- · Ensure expenditure is appropriately managed, authorised and controlled.
- · Support pricing, contract renewals, business development and tender activity where required.
- · Identify and implement initiatives that improve commercial performance and operational efficiency.
Reporting & Governance
- · Produce accurate monthly and quarterly business performance reports covering operational, financial, compliance and client outcomes.
- · Provide clear commentary, analysis and recommendations rather than simply reporting data.
- · Ensure accurate and timely reporting against contractual, client and business KPIs.
- · Lead performance review meetings with management teams using agreed measures and data-led insight.
- · Maintain regular communication with the Regional Manager regarding significant operational, commercial, compliance or client issues.
- · Ensure robust governance processes are implemented across the venue.

Compliance, Health & Safety and Standards
- · Operate in line with company policies, client requirements, statutory obligations and agreed standards.
- · Ensure occupational health and safety requirements are met across the venue portfolio.
- · Monitor compliance with company systems, operational procedures, incident reporting requirements and audit processes.
- · Work with Compliance, HR and operational support teams to address areas of non-compliance and close out actions promptly.
- · Ensure incident, hazard and near-miss reporting is completed accurately and within required timescales.
- · Promote a safe working culture and ensure management teams understand their responsibilities.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- · Significant management experience within cleaning, facilities management, events, stadia, venue services or a similar client-facing operational environment.
- · Experience leading large-scale, multi-site or multi-contract operations through management teams.
- · Strong commercial and financial management experience, including budget ownership, margin control and performance improvement.
- · Proven experience managing senior client relationships and presenting performance updates to stakeholders.
- · Experience leading, developing and holding management teams accountable for results.
- · Strong knowledge of compliance, health and safety, employment legislation and operational governance.
- · Excellent organisation, communication, stakeholder management and report-writing skills.
- · Current full UK driving licence or ability to travel between venues as required.
Desirable
- · Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Business Management, Operations Management, Facilities Management or a related subject.
- · BICSc, IWFM, RICS or equivalent industry qualification.
- · Experience within stadia, events, sports, entertainment or high-footfall venues.
- · Experience supporting tender activity, mobilisation, contract retention or business growth.
- · Experience using ERP, workforce management, finance or compliance systems.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- · Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data manipulation, analysis and performance reporting.
- · Strong experience analysing operational, financial and workforce datasets.
- · Experience developing KPI dashboards, reporting packs and management information.
- · Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI is highly desirable and will be viewed as a significant advantage.
- · Strong analytical, problem-solving and commercial decision-making capability.
- · Confident presenting data, trends and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
