Full job description
The Shelford Group is a network of some of the largest teaching and research NHS Trusts in England. We learn from each other, play a leading role in the NHS and our local communities and share a common voice to shape our environment.
The Policy and Projects Adviser is an important part of the small, dynamic, high-performing, central Shelford Group team that drives forward the work of the group.
This is an exciting, stimulating and varied role combining policy analysis, project delivery and stakeholder engagement at a senior level. Your day to day work would include supporting some of our key member sub-groups (such as our Chief Finance Officers or Chief Nurses networks), taking ownership of major Shelford work programmes (such as our shared work on outpatient transformation), leading our policy thinking on key areas of the 10 year health plan, and working with the wider team on our annual event and other shared priorities.
The Shelford Group has a scale and breadth to make really positive impact across health and care. This role would suit someone who wants to be at the heart of driving positive change, with the professional and personal skills to play a key role in a small team.
This post is also available as a 12 month fixed-term contract. If you are interested in both the permanent and the fixed-term contracts, please state this in your application. You will be then invited to discuss your preferences at the interview stage.
Interview Dates: 25th and 26th June in person (Central London)
The Policy and Projects Adviser is a senior role within the Shelford Group team. It requires strong intellectual and interpersonal skills with a recognition of the importance of member engagement and support.
The main duties of the role include:
We provide first-class acute and specialist services across eight sites:
University College Hospital (incorporating the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing)
National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery
Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals
University College Hospital Grafton Way Building
Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine
University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre
The Hospital for Tropical Diseases
University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street
We are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of many complex illnesses. UCLH specialises in women’s health and the treatment of cancer, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease. It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology.
We are committed to sustainability and have pledged to become a carbon net zero health service, embedding sustainable practice throughout UCLH. We have set an ambitious target of net zero for our direct emissions by 2031 and indirect emissions by 2040.
For the full Person Specification and more information regarding the main responsibilities of this role, please refer to the attached Job Description.
The Shelford Group is a small, dynamic, and friendly team with a distinctive member-focused culture. We are looking for someone who can quickly establish themselves as a liked and trusted part of the Group, including by demonstrating credibility with senior audiences at CEO and Exec Director level. Our team is lean and high-functioning – and this is a role that would suit someone prepared to get stuck into delivery at all levels of a project with significant autonomy. We are predominantly home based but there are regular office days in central London and regular travel to our members across the country.
This is a fantastic role offering variety and exposure to topics and people that it is hard to find anywhere else in the NHS.
Come and be a part of the best NHS trust in England to work for, according to our staff*
