Full job description
Chemist Warehouse is one of the world's largest and best-known pharmacy retail brands, part of Sigma Healthcare, and now expanding internationally across several countries. We are building our UK business from the ground up, bringing our famous everyday-low-price model and destination beauty, health and wellness ranges to UK customers. This is a rare opportunity to help shape a major retailer's entry into the UK market and to build the brand's voice from day one.
About the role
We're looking for a hands-on, versatile marketing and communications professional to own PR, media and marketing for Chemist Warehouse in the UK. Reporting to the Head of UK Business, you will be the sole marketing, PR and communications person for our UK business, setting the strategy and rolling up your sleeves to deliver it across public relations, brand and campaign marketing, social and influencer, and supplier co-marketing. You'll translate our value proposition and range into compelling, compliant UK campaigns that build awareness, footfall and trust as we launch and grow.
This is a standalone, one-person role: you will be the entire UK marketing function, both the strategist and the doer, delivering directly and through external agencies, freelancers and our global marketing team rather than an internal team. It will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced, start-up-style environment, prioritises ruthlessly, is genuinely self-sufficient, and is equally confident owning a press release, a campaign plan and a TikTok post.
Key responsibilities
PR & media relations
- Develop and deliver the UK PR and communications strategy to build and protect the Chemist Warehouse brand as it launches and scales.
- Own UK media relations: build relationships with consumer, health, beauty, retail and trade press; write press releases, media kits, briefings and reactive statements.
- Lead launch and store-opening PR and maintain an ongoing news flow (new ranges, value/price stories, partnerships, community initiatives).
- Manage PR agencies and freelancers, run the press office, handle media enquiries and prepare/coordinate spokespeople.
- Support issues and crisis communications alongside the UK leadership team.
Brand, campaign & retail marketing
- Translate the Chemist Warehouse everyday-low-price and catalogue proposition into an integrated UK marketing calendar.
- Plan and deliver campaigns (launch, seasonal and category) across owned, earned and paid channels.
- Own promotional and catalogue marketing communications and in-store / point-of-sale messaging, in partnership with the buying and store teams.
- Manage the marketing budget, timelines, creative production and external agencies/suppliers.
Social, influencer & content
- Own the UK social channels (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and emerging platforms): strategy, publishing, community management and real-time optimisation.
- Build and manage UK influencer and content-creator partnerships that grow reach, engagement and credibility.
- Create and commission engaging, on-brand, platform-optimised content; monitor trends and act on them quickly.
Supplier & stakeholder partnerships
- Work with brand and supplier partners on co-marketing, joint business plans and supplier-funded activity.
- Partner with the Australian/global marketing teams to adapt group brand assets and campaigns for the UK.
- Collaborate closely with buying, retail operations and the UK leadership team to align marketing with commercial priorities.
Compliance & governance
- Ensure all marketing, PR and promotional activity complies with UK law and industry codes — including the ASA / CAP Advertising Codes, MHRA rules on the advertising of medicines (including the prohibition on advertising prescription-only medicines to the public), GPhC standards, HFSS advertising restrictions, and consumer-protection and price-promotion rules (DMCC Act, Price Marking Order).
- Safeguard brand reputation, tone of voice and customer trust across every channel.
Insight & performance
- Set KPIs and measure, report and optimise campaign, PR and channel performance against them.
- Track market, competitor and trend intelligence to keep our activity sharp and relevant.
Who we're looking for
Essential
- A degree in marketing, communications, PR, journalism or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Around 5+ years' experience in marketing, PR and/or communications, including a broad remit spanning more than one discipline (agency and/or in-house).
- Proven UK PR and media-relations experience, with established press contacts.
- Strong track record in campaign, social and influencer marketing.
- Excellent writing, storytelling and editing skills, with sharp attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of UK advertising and marketing compliance (ASA/CAP; ideally MHRA / healthcare or another regulated sector).
- Highly organised self-starter able to juggle multiple projects, agencies and deadlines, and comfortable in a fast-moving launch environment.
- Comfortable operating as a standalone function, self-sufficient and hands-on across both strategy and delivery, with the judgement to prioritise across competing demands.
- Confident with digital tools and the Microsoft Office suite.
Desirable
- Experience in retail, pharmacy, health, beauty or FMCG.
- Experience launching a brand or entering a new market.
- Skills across paid media, SEO, CRM/email and analytics platforms.
- A strong track record of managing external agencies, freelancers and suppliers to deliver more than one person could alone.
