Full job description
Business Development Manager
Astral Systems is a dynamic startup at the forefront of Nuclear Fusion and Neutron Source technology development. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge solutions that revolutionise industries and enhance everyday life, especially in Medical, Space, and Nuclear Fusion applications.
Our compact multi-state fusion reactors offer high particle flux and exceptional lifetime performance, unlocking a variety of critical medical, industrial, and research applications today. As pioneers in fusion technology, we are dedicated to solving global health and energy challenges by providing innovative systems that enhance access to medical isotopes and accelerate fusion research.
About the Role
Join Astral Systems at an exciting stage of growth and help bring fusion technology to customers tackling some of industry’s toughest challenges today.
As Business Development Manager, you will help turn this capability into a growing irradiation services business alongside the strategic placement of Astral’s advanced MSF neutron devices in the hands of users. You will open doors to new customers, uncover applications and build relationships that turn technical potential into lasting commercial partnerships. This is an opportunity to shape an emerging market, accelerate our growth and see the direct impact of the business you win.

- Continue to mature the business development plan for irradiation services, identifying priority markets, customer segments and applications to achieve agreed revenue and margin targets.
- Identify, prospect and qualify new customers through targeted outreach, referrals, industry networks and events. Build relationships with technical decision-makers, procurement teams and commercial stakeholders.
- Develop existing accounts through regular engagement, account planning and identification of repeat business and additional service requirements. Understand customer priorities and build long-term relationships.
- Host customer site-visits to enable familiarisation with our team and facilities and planning for irradiations.
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and customer relationship management records, including opportunity value, stage, timing and next actions. Provide realistic forecasts and report progress against targets.
- Work with technical and operations teams to understand customer irradiation requirements, assess feasibility and agree scope, capacity, lead times and deliverables before making commitments.
- Prepare and produce quotations, proposals and tender submissions, clearly explaining the service offer, customer benefits, assumptions and commercial terms. Secure internal review and approval.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiations within delegated authority, balancing customer needs, profitability and delivery risk. Coordinate contract review and approvals before acceptance.
- Monitor markets, competitors and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities in key sectors.
- Represent Astral Systems at customer meetings, exhibitions and industry events and develop accurate service information, presentations and case studies.
- Ensure a clear handover of won work to delivery teams, including agreed scope, pricing, milestones and customer expectations.

As a minimum, we’re looking for individuals with:
- Proven track record in business development, technical sales or account management for technical services or related business-to-business markets
- Ability to understand broad range of technical requirements and communicate service offering
- Strong prospecting, relationship-building, proposal-writing and negotiation skills
- Commercial acumen, including pricing and opportunity qualification
- Accurate pipeline management, forecasting and CRM discipline
- Ability to work with technical and operations teams and manage competing priorities
