Full job description

Abbeydale Road, Sheffield
40 hours per week
Salary + bonus up to £35,000

We’re looking for a General Manager to run Two Thirds, our neighbourhood bar and kitchen on Abbeydale Road.

Two Thirds opened in 2019 with a simple aim; to serve great beer and food in a relaxed bar that didn’t take itself too seriously.

We're proud to say we've made it this far, and now, seven years later, we’re looking for someone new to take the reins.

THE ROLE

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of Two Thirds, working closely with the directors but with plenty of freedom to run the place as your own.

We want someone who can lead a good team, run a tight operation and bring some fresh ideas to the business.

You’ll look after:

  • The day-to-day running of the bar
  • Leading, training and developing the team
  • Rotas and labour
  • Stock, ordering and GP
  • Sales and profitability
  • Recruitment
  • Service standards and guest experience
  • Events, bookings and ideas to drive trade
  • Licensing, health & safety and compliance
  • Working closely with the kitchen team

You’ll know what’s happening with the numbers, but you’ll be just as comfortable on the floor talking to guests.

HOSPITALITY FIRST

We love good beer, but you don’t need to be a massive beer nerd to work here.

For us, hospitality comes first.

Two Thirds is predominantly table service. We want the team talking to guests, making recommendations and having genuine conversations, not reciting tasting notes they learned five minutes before the shift.

If you already know loads about beer, great. If you don’t, we can teach you.

Knowing how to look after people is much harder to teach.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You might already be a General Manager, or you might be a strong Assistant or Deputy Manager ready to run your own place.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a natural host and enjoys being on the floor
  • Can lead a team without micromanaging
  • Understands the commercial side of running a bar
  • Is organised and gets things done
  • Has ideas and the confidence to try them
  • Takes responsibility when things go wrong
  • Cares about the details
  • Wants to make their mark on an independent business

Experience in a busy bar, pub or restaurant is important. Craft beer experience isn’t.

WHAT YOU’LL GET

  • 40-hour working week
  • Salary + performance bonus up to £35,000
  • Tips
  • 33% off everything, all the time, for you and up to three others
  • Company pension
  • Winter shutdown
  • Plenty of freedom to run the business
  • The chance to grow with us

ABOUT US

Two Thirds is part of the same independent Sheffield group as Kapital, Sheffield's modern beer hall.

We’re growing and actively seeking more sites, so there will be opportunities beyond Two Thirds for the right members of our growing teams.

We’re still a small business. You’ll know the people who own it, you’ll be able to get an answer without going through five layers of management, and if you’ve got a good idea, we can actually do it.

If that sounds like your sort of place, send us your CV and tell us a bit about yourself.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: MON 7TH SEPT

Pay: Up to £35,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Pay rise
  • Sick pay

Application question(s):

  • What’s your current notice period / when would you be available to start?
  • Are you available for an in-person interview on any of the following dates; Monday 7th Sep, Friday 11th Sep, or Monday 14th Sep?
  • What does great hospitality look like to you?
  • Why Two Thirds?
  • Tell us briefly about the busiest venue you’ve helped manage, what was your role and roughly how busy was it?
