Full job description

Essential Skills Tutor (Maths)

Ready to make a difference every day?

At Skilled NI, we believe that education changes lives. We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Essential Skills Tutor (Maths) to help learners build confidence, develop valuable skills and achieve their goals.

Whether you're an experienced Essential Skills Tutor or a talented graduate looking to move into teaching, we'd love to hear from you.

What's the role?

You'll join our friendly team of educators, delivering engaging and inspiring Maths learning to students from a variety of backgrounds. While Maths will be your primary focus, you'll work alongside colleagues delivering English and ICT programmes, helping learners develop the skills they need for work, further education and everyday life.

The role is based mainly at our Belfast college, although occasional travel to off-site locations may be required.

No two days are the same. One day you could be helping a learner achieve a qualification they never thought possible, and the next you could be supporting a group of students as they take their next step towards employment or further study.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who:

  • Loves helping people learn and succeed.
  • Can make Maths accessible, engaging and relevant.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Brings energy, enthusiasm and a positive attitude to the classroom.

You'll also need:

  • A degree, preferably with Mathematics comprising at least 50% of the course content.
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A-C (or equivalent).
  • A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to achieve the Certificate in Teaching within one year of appointment.
  • Access to a car and a full, valid driving licence (travel expenses are paid).

Experience as an Essential Skills Tutor would be fantastic, but it's not essential. If you have the right attitude, aptitude and commitment to developing others, we want to hear from you.

Essential Skills Tutors recognised as qualified by the Department for the Economy before 1 August 2012 and currently employed in the sector will retain this recognition.

Why Skilled NI?

We've been helping people learn, develop and progress since 1978.

From our Belfast headquarters, we deliver a wide range of training and education programmes across Northern Ireland, working with employers, apprentices, students and communities to create opportunities and support success.

At Skilled NI, you'll be joining a team that genuinely cares about learners and each other. We work hard, support one another and celebrate success together.

What you'll get in return

✔ Generous annual leave entitlement

✔ Contributory pension scheme

✔ Life assurance

✔ Employee welfare programme

✔ Ongoing professional development

✔ A supportive and welcoming team

✔ The opportunity to change lives through education

Interested?

If you're passionate about training and teaching, enjoy helping others achieve their potential and want to be part of an organisation that makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help shape the future, one learner at a time.

Shortlisting will be based on the information provided in your CV, so please ensure you clearly demonstrate how your qualifications, skills and experience meet the criteria for the role.
