Graduate Electronic Design Engineer

Kick-start your engineering career designing real-world electronic products that move from concept to mass production.

This is a rare opportunity for a Graduate Electronic Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering team developing innovative energy and metering technology used globally.

As a Graduate Electronic Design Engineer, you will work alongside experienced engineers across electronic design, embedded systems, PCB development, prototyping, and testing. This role is designed to give you hands-on exposure to the full product lifecycle, allowing you to build practical engineering experience while contributing to the development of commercially manufactured electronic products. If you are looking for a role where you can learn quickly, develop technically, and work on meaningful engineering projects from day one, this opportunity offers an outstanding platform to build your career.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the design of analogue, digital, and embedded electronic systems based around microcontrollers
  • Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout design using PCB design software
  • Build and test electronic prototypes to evaluate functionality and performance
  • Support debugging, fault finding, and product testing activities
  • Assist with the development of electricity meters and other energy-related products
  • Work alongside senior engineers on product development projects from concept through to manufacture
  • Help produce technical documentation, reports, and engineering specifications
  • Support product approval and compliance activities including CE, MIR, and MID standards
  • Contribute to design-for-manufacture improvements for high-volume production
  • Work closely with firmware and mechanical engineering teams throughout development projects
  • Follow ISO 9001 quality procedures and engineering processes
  • Support international manufacturing and export projects where required
  • Travel internationally when required, particularly within Asia, to support manufacturing and export activity

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • Understanding of analogue and digital electronic principles
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers and embedded electronic systems
  • Exposure to PCB schematic capture and PCB layout software through university projects or placements
  • Understanding of electronic testing and prototyping principles
  • Strong interest in electronic product development and design engineering
  • Good problem-solving ability with a practical engineering mindset
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
  • Placement year, university projects, or hobbyist electronics experience would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of Mentor Graphics PADs would be advantageous but not essential

Pay and Benefits:

  • Up to £35,000
  • Monday to Friday working hours
  • Opportunity to work on innovative electronic and energy-related products
  • Exposure to the full product development lifecycle
  • Collaborative and supportive technical environment

For a Graduate Electronic Design Engineer, opportunities like this provide the chance to gain hands-on experience that many graduate roles simply cannot offer. You will be trusted with real engineering responsibility, supported by experienced professionals, and given the opportunity to develop into a highly capable design engineer within a specialist industry. If you are looking to build a long-term career in electronic product design and want to work on projects that genuinely make an impact, apply now before this opportunity is gone.
