Full job description
Join our team as a 1:1 Teacher!
Full or part time
East School - working in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Homerton, Islington
South School - working in Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley, Croydon
We're currently recruiting for a September 2026 start, ready for the new academic year.
At The Complete Works we support children and young people across London who are unable to access mainstream education for a variety of reasons such as anxiety, trauma, medical needs, Special Educational Needs such as Autism or ADHD, Social and Emotional Needs, school refusal or other complex circumstances.
We are looking for resilient, compassionate and creative individuals to join our team as one to one Teachers, delivering personalised education in students’ homes, libraries and our Learning Hubs.
Unlike a mainstream school setting, most of the teaching at The Complete Works is one to one or small groups. This role combines education, relationship building and pastoral care. Many of our students have had negative experiences of education and benefit from patient, consistent adults who can help rebuild their confidence in learning.
You don’t need to hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) as we provide all of the training, however, you do need relevant experience working with children and young people.
What The Role Looks Like
You will:
- Deliver personalised cross curricular lessons in English, Maths, Science and PSHE
- Work one to one with students across East or South London, depending on your location
- Travel across East or South London is a core part of the role
- Teach in a range of settings including homes, libraries and TCW Learning Hubs
- Adapt lessons creatively based on each student’s needs and interests
- Support students with emotional regulation, confidence and engagement
- Build positive, professional relationships with students and families
- Work closely with safeguarding, wellbeing and teaching staff
No two days will be the same. Some students are highly academic but struggle with anxiety around school, while others may have significant social and emotional needs or long periods of disrupted education. Flexibility, patience and emotional intelligence are essential skills. Success in this role is often measured through small but meaningful ways - a student attending consistently, re-engaged with learning, or achieving qualifications they previously felt were out of reach.
Support & Training
You will never be expected to manage complex situations alone.
Every member of staff is supported by:
- A dedicated line manager
- A qualified teacher mentor
- Safeguarding and wellbeing teams
- Ongoing training and coaching
- Weekly professional development sessions
Many members of our school Senior Leadership Team began in entry level roles and we actively promote from within.
Who this role would suit
This role could suit:
- Graduates that have experience working with children and young people and considering teaching, social work, youth work or psychology
- Experienced teachers looking for a more relational and creative environment
- Youth workers, mentors or tutors who have experience working with vulnerable young people
- Creative individuals with strong interpersonal skills
You don’t need to know everything from day one. We are looking for people with warmth, adaptability and professionalism with a shared commitment to supporting young people to succeed.
What We Offer:
- Yearly pay rises
- Promotion from within (our senior leadership team all started in entry level positions)
- Ongoing professional development, tailored to your ambitions and interests
- Paid school holidays in line with mainstream school calendars
- Regular socials and staff clubs, a supportive and friendly culture
- Competitive Pension scheme
- A cycle to work scheme to help you stay fit and healthy
- Access to in house wellbeing and mental health support
- Blue Light Card discounts
Requirements:
- Legal right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate and Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
- This role requires strong professional boundaries, emotional resilience and a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable young people.
- Two professional reference checks.
- Experience working with young people, ideally with SEN or SEMH.
- Willingness to teach English, Maths and Science up to KS3 or KS4 level, with support.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
Training:
- One off induction day – 9.00am – 3.45pm
- Five Tuesday afternoon induction training sessions- 4.30 – 6.00pm
- Ongoing professional development on Thursday afternoons – 4.30 – 6.00pm
- You will be teaching and training simultaneously.
TCW Values:
We believe our students deserve a broad range of role models, reflecting the diversity of our society. Therefore we welcome applications from those of all backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions.
The Complete Works school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 2020. Any job offer will be conditional on the satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and barred list check.
If you would like further information please email
Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
