Job Summary
McGregor Projects is seeking an experienced, hands-on Groundworker Foreman to lead and coordinate groundworks across our construction, maintenance and social housing projects.
You will supervise groundworkers, labourers, plant operatives and subcontractors, ensuring daily activities are properly planned and completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. Works may include excavations, drainage, ducting, foundations, concrete works, kerbing, paving, service trenches, reinstatement and associated external works.
The successful candidate will have strong practical groundworks experience, confident leadership skills and the ability to read drawings, coordinate labour, plant and materials, deliver site briefings and maintain accurate records. You will work closely with site and operational management to monitor progress, resolve issues and ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, RAMS and McGregor Projects procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise and coordinate groundworkers, labourers, plant operatives and subcontractors.
- Plan daily groundworks activities and allocate labour, plant, equipment and materials effectively.
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes, RAMS and permits before work begins.
- Oversee excavations, drainage, ducting, foundations, concrete works, kerbing, paving, service trenches, reinstatement and associated external works.
- Set out or check lines, levels, falls and dimensions using appropriate equipment.
- Deliver daily briefings, toolbox talks and task-specific instructions to the workforce.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site rules, RAMS, permits and McGregor Projects procedures.
- Inspect excavations, underground-service controls, access routes, exclusion zones, barriers and plant movements.
- Confirm that operatives have the appropriate competence, training, certification and authorisation for their assigned work.
- Monitor workmanship, materials, compaction, levels, falls and finishes throughout each stage of the work.
- Coordinate deliveries, plant movements and activities involving other trades, subcontractors, residents and members of the public.
- Monitor progress against the agreed programme and provide accurate updates to site and operational management.
- Identify and report delays, defects, design discrepancies, additional works, material shortages and resource requirements promptly.
- Complete and maintain daily records, progress photographs, plant checks, inspection records, permits and other required site documentation.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure tools, plant and materials are stored securely.
- Ensure environmental controls are followed, including the management of dust, noise, vibration, mud, waste and potential pollution.
- Stop work immediately where unsafe conditions, unforeseen hazards or departures from the approved RAMS are identified.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, environmental events and unsafe conditions without delay.
- Protect occupied properties, existing finishes and public access while maintaining respectful communication with residents and clients.
- Support the Site Manager, Contracts Manager and operational team in delivering works safely, on time and to the required standard.
