Job Summary

We are recruiting, to start as soon as possible, a Medical and Learning Support Assistant (MLSA) to work in Year Two, providing 1:1 support for a boy with cerebral palsy.

He is a happy, engaged and confident member of the school community and an able learner. He has physical and mobility needs and uses a range of specialist equipment to enable him to participate fully in school life and access all areas of the curriculum.

The MLSA will support him with transitions around the school site and with the safe use of mobility equipment, including a walking frame, sticks and wheelchair. He may also require support when travelling longer distances around the school.

Main duties:

The MLSA is required for 32.5 hours per week, term time only for 1:1 care and support. As we do not anticipate the child requiring support with their academic needs in lessons, we would like the MLSA to be willing to support with other children in the class as necessary.

Other duties include:

• Intimate personal care as required
• Safe moving and handling (training Provided). Manual handling is a significant part of the role., and so personal physical wellness is important
• Assistance with mealtimes, such as carrying trays and supporting the child to cut their food
• Assist and support physical exercise through play
• Assist and support education in lessons
• Assist and support exercise using specialist equipment and stretches (training provided)
• Liaise as necessary with the child's Group Tutor, Head of Year, the child's parents, SENDCo and other agencies as required.

Person specification includes:

• Good standard of Maths and English
• Experience of working within an educational or care setting with young children or adults
• Experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative

The usual hours will be 8.30 am to 3.30 pm weekdays during term time (including half an hour unpaid for lunch).
