Job summary

Corrigenda are seeking a skilled, directly employed Multi-Skilled Builder, you will be the versatile backbone of our Hampshire County Council (HCC) delivery team. Rather than focusing on a single trade, you will deploy a broad range of structural, fabric, and finishing skills for minor works projects. This role requires high autonomy, adaptability, and a strict commitment to public-sector safety standards to join our team delivering structural alterations, extensions, and capital works across our Hampshire County Council (HCC) contract portfolio. This permanent role includes a company vehicle and full benefits package. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality work and property maintenance services across Hampshire County Council’s diverse estate. The post-holder will ensure all public buildings, schools, and corporate properties are maintained in a safe, functional, and compliant state, executing both reactive repairs and planned cyclical work. This role requires strong organisational and practical skills, the ability to follow technical instructions, and an understanding of safe working practices. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the company’s out-of-hours call-out rota, responding to emergency works across the contract area as required.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to)

Structural & Groundwork (Fabric Stage)

  • Excavation & Drainage: Assisting with initial groundworks, digging footings, laying drainage pipes, and preparing sub-bases. Concreting: Mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete for foundations, floor slabs, pathways, and ramps (including DDA-compliant access ramps).
  • Structural Alterations: Creating openings in existing structures, safely installing lintels, RSJs (steel beam sand cavity trays to prevent water ingress.

Core Carpentry & Partitioning (First Fix)

  • Structural Timber: Erecting timber stud partitions, installing ceiling joists, and fitting floor boarding.
  • Openings: Setting and securing external door frames, window frames, and lining kits ready for brickwork tie-ins.
  • Insulation & Fire-Stopping: Installing thermal insulation into cavities and cavities-stops, and applying certified fire-stopping materials to meet strict local authority building regulations.

Finishing & Making Good (Second Fix)

  • Plaster boarding & Patching: Tacking plasterboard to walls/ceilings and performing high-quality plaster patching or rendering after structural modifications.
  • Basic Joinery: Fitting internal doors, ironmongery, skirtings, architraves, and basic kitchen/vanity units in school or office environments.
  • Component Fitting: Installing UPVC fascias, soffits, guttering systems, and minor roof tiling repairs.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Regulatory Adherence: Execute all works in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and local authority building controls.
  • Safe Environment: Maintain clean, safe working zones, especially when operating within live public environments or schools.
  • Safeguarding: Strictly adhere to council safeguarding policies, remaining visible and identifiable via uniform and ID badges at all times.

Out-of-Hours Call-Out

Participate in the company’s on-call rota and attend emergency call-outs outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, where required.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Strong safety mindset with an understanding of risk assessments on public frameworks.
  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, and part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in using SMART devices and completing electronic documentation.
  • Ability to pass DBS checks for work in schools.

Desirable

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in general building, multi-trade maintenance, or residential/commercial extensions. You must be comfortable switching from brickwork support to carpentry or plastering
  • Health & Safety qualification or ability to obtain a CSCS card.
  • PASMA and or IPAF

Personal Attributes & Skills

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of reading technical drawings and improvising solutions to maintenance challenges on site.
  • Autonomy: Trustworthy to work completely unsupervised, manage stock economically, and keep an organized vehicle tool inventory.
