EMPLOYER: Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity

POST TITLE: Play & Youth Work Assistant

SALARY:

  • £12.59 to £13.24 per hour
  • Up to £5 per session travel contribution throughout 2024
  • 6% pension contribution

HOURS OF WORK:

Wednesday, 3:15pm to 5:15pm at Mere Farm, Ullesthorpe during Leicestershire term time

Plus Training, Supervision and Planning sessions when required.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

HCYC is looking for people to work as part of a small team and assist or lead in providing positive activities for children and young people in an environment where they feel respected and valued. Activities include opportunities for the young people to improve their communication skills, confidence and well-being. Delivery is primarily in outreach locations working from village and town venues, such as village halls, and on Traveller sites from our mobile youth facility – The Chill Out Bus. Sessions take place across the wide geographical area of Harborough District.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend and arrive punctually to activity sessions, staff meetings and supervisions.
  • Assist a Leader in the delivery and review of activities for young people aged 11 - 16 years.
  • Work in a participatory way, seeking and giving due consideration to the views of young people as well as responding in a timely and professional manner.
  • Read, understand and follow risk assessments in advance for planned activities
  • Assess and respond to any risks arising during sessions
  • Report any safety concerns to the Leader or Coordinator
  • Help record and communicate young people’s learning and development as required by the Leader
  • Work in a manner which respects confidentiality of young people and their families
  • Work in an inclusive way and challenge discrimination in all its forms
  • Conduct any other tasks which may be reasonably required of you in relation to the post as required by the Leader or Coordinator

CANDIDATE:

HCYC is looking for a team worker with a positive, enthusiastic attitude towards young people. You will be keen to learn and develop your practice and be motivated to make a positive difference to the lives of young people. You will be well organised, punctual and an excellent communicator, with the ability to form positive relationships with young people and other community members.

Please note: An enhanced clearance for the Children’s Workforce by the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required for this post.
