Full job description

Working Pattern:
Full-time position working five shifts per week: four weekdays and one weekend day. Weekend working is required as this is when a large proportion of the fleet is available in the yard for repairs, checks, and upkeep.

We are seeking a practical and self-motivated Semi-Skilled HGV Fleet Technician to take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of our commercial vehicle fleet. This is a hands-on role focused on running repairs, minor accident damage, vehicle presentation, and keeping vehicles roadworthy and operational.

Working independently, you will carry out a variety of minor repair and maintenance tasks across HGVs, trailers, and fleet equipment, helping to minimise downtime and maintain high standards throughout the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out running repairs to HGVs and trailers.

Repair minor vehicle and trailer damage, including panels, trims, mudguards, lights, and ancillary equipment.

Conduct vehicle condition checks and identify defects requiring further attention.

Ensure vehicles remain clean, presentable, and compliant with company standards.

Liaise with drivers and management regarding reported defects.

Manage stock of commonly used parts and consumables.

Maintain accurate records of completed work.

Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures.

Take vehicles for maintenance appointments as required.

Requirements

Previous experience in a mechanical, commercial vehicle, or similar environment.

Good practical repair skills and ability to work independently.

Experience using hand and power tools.

Ability to identify vehicle defects and determine appropriate repairs.

Strong organisational skills and self-motivation.

Full HGV driving licence.

Additional Requirements

Competent IT skills, including the use of tablets, smartphones, and computer systems.

Ability to accurately record defects, repairs, inspections, and parts usage using fleet management software.

Comfortable using email, Microsoft Office applications, and digital reporting systems.

Ability to take and upload photographs of vehicle defects and completed repairs.

Pay: £17.00-£19.00 per hour
