Full job description

Be Part of Something Bigger

At The HR Dept Clapham, Highbury & Islington, Newbury & South Oxfordshire, we provide practical, local and personal HR support to growing SMEs.

We are not a stuffy, vanilla HR business. We believe HR should be professional and credible built on in-person relationships, creative, useful and refreshingly down to earth.

We are growing and looking for an ambitious Senior HR Consultant to join our Newbury-based team and help run and shape our London territories to the next stage of the business.

This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who wants more than high pace, employee relations work load. You will lead complex HR work, support colleague development, bring fresh ideas and help us deliver brilliant HR support across one joined-up business covering Newbury, South Oxfordshire and London.

The Role

You will be based full-time in our Newbury office, with occasional travel to London for client meetings and relationship-building.

We operate as one business, but offer different and exciting opportunities — from complex employee relations and hands-on SME advice to client growth, innovation and service development.

You will advise business owners and managers on areas such as:

- disciplinary and grievance issues;

- performance, capability and absence;

- redundancy programmes/

- restructures and redundancies;

- settlement discussions;

- contracts, policies and compliance;

- management confidence and employee relations strategy.

You will also help improve how we work, how we use systems and technology, and how we create an outstanding client experience.

A key part of the role will be supporting and developing colleagues to build confidence, capability and client-facing experience.

About You

You will fit right in if you are:

- looking for your next big career move;

- ambitious and ready for more ownership;

- decisive, confident and practical;

- creative, curious and open to doing HR differently;

- commercially aware and client-focused;

- warm, personable and able to build trust quickly;

- supportive and interested in developing others;

- excited by innovation, technology and the future of HR consultancy.

You may currently be a Senior HR Advisor, HR Business Partner, HR Consultant, ER Specialist, HR Manager, or already working in outsourced HR or consultancy.

What matters most is the right mix of HR judgement, client confidence, ambition, personality and growth potential.

You Will Need

- Over 5 years' strong HR advisory, HR business partnering or HR consultancy experience.

- Proven employee relations experience.

- Good knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.

- Confidence through experience in advising managers or business owners.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to manage a busy, varied workload.

- Comfortable with technology and automation.

- A genuine interest in improving how HR support is delivered.

Why Join Us?

You will have the chance to:

- join a growing, ambitious and supportive HR consultancy;

- work with varied and very interesting SME clients across different sectors;

- take ownership of client relationships and complex HR work;

- help shape a modern, creative and relationship-led service;

- support and develop colleagues;

- build your own leadership career as the business grows.
