Full job description

HG Walter is an independent, family-run butcher established in 1972 by Peter Heanen, based in West London. We have grown to become one of the UK’s most respected butchers, supplying some of the country’s finest chefs and restaurants alongside our loyal retail and home customers. Our mission is simple: to provide every professional chef and home cook with exceptional food. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to quality meat, transparent and sustainable supply chains, and the promotion of responsible farming practices.

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team and support our busy butchering and food production business, which employs approximately 240 people. This is a hands-on operational HR role focused on employee relations, policy management, compliance and supporting managers with day-to-day people matters. This position is centred on ensuring HR processes are delivered effectively and in line with employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory: Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, and performance management cases.
  • Provide practical HR advice and support to managers and employees.
  • Ensure compliance with employment law, food industry regulations where applicable, and company policies.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee records.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and probation processes.
  • Monitor absence and attendance management processes.
  • Liaise with payroll to ensure employee information is accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare HR reports and maintain HR systems and documentation.
  • Support audits and ensure HR records meet requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in an HR Manager or Senior HR Advisor role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations cases independently.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Experience within manufacturing, food production, FMCG, or similar environments is essential.

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified or equivalent HR experience
  • CIPID Level 7 desirable but not essential

This role is ideal for a practical HR professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams and ensuring a compliant, fair, and well managed workplace.

Pay: £55,000.00-£64,000.00 per year
