Full job description

Become a Special Constable on the Isle of Wight.

You may not have considered policing before.

You may not see yourself as someone who would wear the uniform.

But if you’re calm, fair-minded, good with people and willing to take responsibility, you may already have the qualities we’re looking for.

As a Special Constable, you’ll be a trained volunteer police officer with the same powers as regular officers. You’ll work alongside policing teams to support victims, prevent crime, protect vulnerable people and help keep communities safe.

Every shift is different. The role can be demanding, but you’ll see the impact of your time - in the people you help and the communities you support.

What we’re looking for

We need people with different backgrounds, skills and perspectives - people who work with customers, study, care for others, have served their country, run busy households, lead teams, solve problems, stay calm under pressure and know how to talk to people.

You don’t need a policing background. You do need sound judgement, integrity, resilience and the willingness to learn.

What you’ll gain

Confidence, resilience and leadership skills
Frontline policing experience
Teamwork and communication skills
Ongoing training and personal development

Wellbeing support, selected-site gym access, Police Leisure and Sport membership and Blue Light discounts

What you need to know

It’s a voluntary role
You’ll need a minimum 16 hours per month
Full training will be provided before your duties
The role is subject to vetting, medical and fitness checks
