Full job description

We are looking for a practical and reliable Maintenance & Engineering Technician to join our growing coffee manufacturing business in Antrim.

This is a new role within the business and will suit someone with good mechanical and electrical knowledge who enjoys fixing problems, working with machinery and improving how things are done.

We are a relatively small manufacturing business, so this is a varied role. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of our maintenance function and help put proper systems and procedures in place as the business continues to grow.

The Role

A key part of the role initially will be developing and organising our maintenance systems, including:

  • Setting up and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules for our production machinery.
  • Creating maintenance records and SOPs/work instructions for machinery.
  • Creating parts lists for each machine and identifying critical spare parts.
  • Organising our maintenance parts and stores area.
  • Setting and monitoring minimum stock levels for engineering parts.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults on production equipment.
  • Responding to breakdowns and helping minimise production downtime.
  • Identifying recurring problems and suggesting ways to prevent them happening again.
  • Keeping maintenance records up to date.
  • Working with external electricians, engineers and other specialist contractors where required.
  • Communicating clearly with external contractors to explain faults and help identify the appropriate solution.
  • Supporting machinery installations, modifications and improvements.
  • Working closely with production and management to keep machinery operating safely and reliably.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Practical and hands-on.
  • Confident working with machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Comfortable fault-finding and solving problems.
  • Knowledgeable in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Able to work independently and use their own initiative.
  • Organised and capable of putting maintenance systems and records in place.
  • A good communicator who can work with both production staff and external contractors.
  • Willing to get involved in a wide variety of jobs rather than being restricted to one area.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of a growing manufacturing business.

Experience & Qualifications

Previous experience in maintenance, engineering, manufacturing, electrical work or a similar practical environment is essential.

Formal qualifications are an advantage but not essential. We are more interested in someone with good practical knowledge, sound fault-finding ability and the right attitude.

Experience with industrial machinery, motors, pumps, sensors, conveyors, packaging machinery or production equipment would be particularly useful.

You do not need to be able to carry out every specialist repair yourself. However, you should have enough technical knowledge to diagnose problems, understand what is required and communicate effectively with an external specialist when additional expertise is needed.

Due to the nature of manufacturing, some flexibility with start and finish times will be required, particularly when planned maintenance or production requirements make this necessary.

We are looking for someone who is willing to be flexible within reason and understands that occasional problems with machinery need to be dealt with promptly.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Canteen
  • Company pension
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Application question(s):

  • How many years of maintenance or engineering experience do you have?
  • Do you have practical experience with both mechanical and electrical maintenance?

Work Location: In person
