Job Description:

Mobile Maintenance OperativeJob Overview

We are seeking skilled and experienced Mobile Maintenance Operatives to join our team. This is a varied and hands-on role, responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across multiple sites while ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You will cover a wide range of building types across our client base for the Noth West and may be required at times to travel further a field - with the occasional overnight stay being necessary for planned project or emergency works.

As a Mobile Maintenance Operative, you will often be the first person on site to assess a reactive maintenance issue. In many cases, limited background information will be available when a job is raised, so you will need to use your experience, initiative and broad understanding of building maintenance to investigate the issue, identify the cause and determine the most appropriate solution.

The ideal candidate will have a core trade skill alongside strong multi-trade capabilities, allowing them to confidently deal with a wide variety of general maintenance, building, plumbing, decorating and repair requirements. You will need to be a forward thinker, practical problem solver and excellent communicator who takes pride in delivering a high level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of sites.
  • Attend reactive maintenance jobs and act as the first point of assessment, often with limited information about the issue.
  • Investigate, diagnose and determine the cause of building defects, plumbing problems and other maintenance issues.
  • Use your broad knowledge of maintenance and practical experience to identify the most appropriate repair or remedial action.
  • Carry out repairs, replacements and general maintenance using appropriate hand tools and power tools.
  • Undertake a wide range of multi-trade maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry, patch repairs and general building works.
  • Complete regular inspections of facilities to identify defects, potential problems and areas for improvement.
  • Identify issues that may require specialist assistance and communicate these clearly to the relevant team.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, works completed, materials used and any further action required.
  • Liaise professionally with customers, clients, colleagues and contractors while on site.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the organisation in a professional and positive manner.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other trades to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying potential issues before they become larger problems.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with health and safety requirements, company procedures and relevant regulations.
  • Supervise or provide guidance to others when required.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognisedtrade skill or trade background, with the ability to work across multiple maintenance disciplines.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Operative, Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative, Building Maintenance Operative or in a similar role.
  • A broad understanding of general building maintenance, with practical skills in areas such as plumbing, decorating, carpentry and general building works.
  • The ability to confidently assess and diagnose reactive maintenance issues, even when limited information is provided.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically when investigating faults and defects.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and make sound decisions when required.
  • Experience using a range of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • The ability to read and understand plans, drawings, technical manuals and relevant documentation.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise multiple jobs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to completing work to a high standard.
  • The ability to supervise or provide direction to others when necessary.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a professional and approachable manner.
  • A strong ability to work as part of a team and build positive working relationships.
  • A forward-thinking and proactive approach, with the ability to identify solutions rather than simply report problems.
  • Fluent English, both written and verbal.
  • A full clean driving licence, is required for the mobile nature of the role.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is more than just a single-trade specialist. You will need to have a strong core trade skill combined with a broad, practical understanding of multi-trade maintenance.

You should be confident walking into an unfamiliar situation, assessing what you see, asking the right questions, diagnosing the problem and deciding on the best course of action. You will need to be comfortable working independently - while also knowing when to seek support or involve a specialist.

Most importantly, you will be a team player, forward thinker and problem solver who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of providing an excellent customer experience.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications.
  • A varied and interesting mobile maintenance role.
  • Opportunities for career progression and professional development.
  • The opportunity to work across a range of sites and maintenance environments.
  • A supportive team environment.
  • The opportunity to develop your skills across multiple areas of maintenance.

If you are an experienced, multi-skilled maintenance professional who enjoys solving problems, working independently and providing an excellent service to customers, we would like to hear from you.
