Full job description

About Nolato PPT:

Nolato PPT Ltd is a well-established manufacturing company specialising in high-performance EMC protection products for the defence and technology sectors. We pride ourselves on delivering quality conductive elastomers, EMC/environmental seals and gaskets, oriented wire materials, vents, and knitted wire products to meet the demanding requirements of our customers. We are seeking a keen and motivated Maintenance & Production Technician to join our expanding team.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on, highly practical Maintenance & Production Technician to join our manufacturing team. This dual-focus role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working on machinery, taking things apart, fixing them, and keeping equipment running at peak performance.

You will divide your time between planned and reactive maintenance across our production equipment and hands-on machine operation—specifically setting up and operating saws and presses to slice silicone blocks to precise customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Plant/Equipment Maintenance & Tooling Care (Primary Focus)

  • Carry out routine preventative maintenance, servicing, and inspections on manufacturing machinery, including extruders, compression presses, industrial saws, and workshop drills.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults, diagnose root causes, and complete prompt repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Maintain, clean, and manage tooling, dies, and fixtures to ensure consistent product quality and extend tool life.
  • Ancillary Equipment Care. Monitor and assist with the basic upkeep of shared site utilities and supporting plant, including air compressors, extraction systems, airlines, and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain clear maintenance records, service logs, and flag spare-parts requirements before stock runs out.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the shop floor to improve machine reliability, safety, and workplace organisation.

Machine Operation & Material Processing

  • Operate industrial saws, cutting equipment, and presses to slice and convert cured silicone elastomer blocks into sheets and profiles.
  • Set up cutting parameters and tooling accurately to meet tight dimensional tolerances and quality specifications.
  • Perform visual checks and dimensional inspections on sliced materials, recording batch data in accordance with our quality standards.
  • Ensure safe handling, traceability, and neat presentation of raw materials and finished parts.

Facilities Upkeep

  • Carry out routine building and site maintenance across the factory, warehouse, and yard areas (e.g., basic plumbing, minor fabric repairs, lighting checks, and fixtures).
  • Contractor & Service Support. Liaise with, supervise, and provide site access to external facilities contractors (such as HVAC engineers, electricians, and waste management services) during scheduled servicing or statutory inspections.

Health, Safety & Housekeeping

  • Work strictly in line with company Health & Safety procedures, ensuring all machine guards, interlocks, and emergency stops are functional.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised workshop and production area.
  • Waste & Scrap Management. Assist with managing manufacturing waste streams, swarf/scrap removal, and swarf bins to maintain an organised and efficient site environment.

Key Requirements & Experience

  • Hands-on Mechanical Aptitude: Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance, maintenance technician, or mechanical fitting role within a manufacturing or workshop environment.
  • Machinery Knowledge: Comfortable maintaining and servicing mechanical/hydraulic equipment such as extruders, hydraulic presses, automated or manual saws, drills, and workshop tooling.
  • Machine Operation: Confident operating workshop cutting machinery, presses, or material conversion equipment with an eye for detail and dimensional accuracy.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive, self-motivated approach to diagnosing mechanical issues and finding sensible, durable fixes.
  • Practical & Adaptable: Happy to transition smoothly between fixing an extruder and operating a saw to meet daily production targets.
  • Safety-Conscious: Dedicated to maintaining high safety standards across both maintenance tasks and machine operation.
