Job Summary

Station Developments Limited own and operate Tynemouth Station working collaboratively with local transport provider Nexus.

Tynemouth Station is not just a transit hub; it is a magnificent Grade ll listed Victorian building and a cherished piece of local heritage. In addition to transport facilities, it houses a vibrant variety of retail and hospitality tenants and serves as the iconic venue for the famous Tynemouth Market at weekends.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Caretaker/Handyman who takes genuine pride in their work. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the daily upkeep, cleanliness and preservation of a beautiful historic landmark whilst providing practical assistance to our on-site tenants during the week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Heritage & Site Upkeep: Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness by sweeping internal and external areas, including station entrances. Litter-pick the car park, embankments and keep bin compounds tidy.
  • Routine Cleaning: Clean 'The Sidings' corridor and windows. Wash historical bridge windows, decorative metalwork on stairs and tenant doors/sills with care.
  • Maintenance & Fabric Repairs: Carry out minor repair work and small maintenance tasks, such as painting doors and windows, ensuring work is sympathetic to the station's listed status.
  • Facilities & Safety: Test fire alarms regularly. Read water and electricity meters and report readings accurately.
  • Stock Management: Monitor stocks of cleaning and janitorial supplies, ordering replacements proactively.
  • Tenant Support: Act as a helpful and professional point of contact, assisting tenants with deliveries and general queries.
  • Reporting: Carefully inspect the historic building fabric for damage or graffiti, reporting any defects to management in a timely manner.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Pride in Work: A strong work ethic and a meticulous eye for detail, with a passion for preserving historic buildings.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a similar caretaking, handyman, or facilities maintenance role is required.
  • Time Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload independently.
  • Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively with tenants, visitors, and management.
