Job details
Full job description
Job Summary
Are you practical, hands-on and someone who enjoys fixing things and keeping a workplace running smoothly?
At Bakers, we’re looking for a reliable and proactive Handyman to help maintain our buildings, facilities and working environment. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are necessarily the same, and your work will make a real difference to our people and the day-to-day running of the business.
As an independent, family-run manufacturing business, we take pride in looking after our people and our workplace. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has a can-do attitude and enjoys being part of a friendly, supportive team.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help keep our site safe, tidy, well-maintained and in good working order, carrying out a variety of practical maintenance tasks, including:
- Building and facilities upkeep – helping maintain offices, factory areas, staff facilities and external areas.
- Practical jobs around the site – assembling furniture, putting up shelving, fixing fittings and completing general DIY tasks.
- Painting and decorating – undertaking touch-ups and minor decorating work where required.
- Health, safety and housekeeping – helping keep work areas clear, tidy and safe, and reporting any hazards or maintenance issues.
- Supporting the team – assisting with moving equipment, preparing areas and helping with general site requirements as needed.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is practical, dependable and happy to get stuck in. You’ll ideally have:
- Experience in a handyman, general maintenance, facilities or similar practical role.
- Good DIY skills and confidence using basic hand and power tools safely.
- A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.
- Good problem-solving skills and the initiative to identify what needs doing.
- A strong sense of responsibility, with pride in maintaining a clean, safe and presentable workplace.
- The ability to work independently, manage your workload and recognise when specialist support is needed.
- Good communication skills and a helpful, team-focused approach.
Relevant maintenance qualifications would be an advantage, but practical experience, reliability and the right attitude are just as important.
Why join Bakers?
At Bakers, we believe our people are our greatest asset. We’re proud to offer a supportive and friendly working environment where everyone plays a part in our success. When you join us, you can expect:
- A friendly, supportive team and a positive working environment.
- Company pension scheme and life assurance.
- Bonus opportunities.
- Wellbeing support and access to our onsite gym.
- Social events and opportunities to get involved in company activities.
- The opportunity to develop your skills and build a long-term career with an established, growing business.
