About us

Marchant-Holliday School is an independent special school for boys with Education, Health and Care Plans for social, emotional and mental health needs. We have day pupils and weekly boarders, and our vision is that all children can thrive in a caring, tolerant, understanding and supportive environment.

Our site team is central to that vision. A safe, compliant and well-maintained site helps pupils learn, staff work effectively and the school community operate with confidence.

The role

We are seeking an experienced All-Round Maintenance Technician to join our friendly and committed site team. The successful candidate will bring practical maintenance capability and, ideally, trade strength in plumbing and/or painting and decorating.

The role has been designed to add trade depth to the team, improve late-day maintenance coverage and help the school complete more practical building, decorating, compliance and repair work in-house. You will respond to reactive maintenance requests, help deliver planned works and take responsibility for routine compliance checks and records, under the direction of the Site Manager.

We are looking for a capable all-round maintenance professional with real trade depth: someone who can complete practical repairs, take ownership of compliance routines, work independently and help strengthen the school’s in-house maintenance capacity.

We are particularly interested in candidates who

  • Have a trade background or strong practical experience in plumbing, painting and decorating, carpentry or general building maintenance.
  • Can work independently, prioritise sensibly and complete jobs without close supervision.
  • Have experience in schools, care homes, housing associations, healthcare, facilities or other regulated environments.
  • Understand the importance of compliance checks, accurate records and health and safety standards.
  • Are willing to support grounds, gutters/gullies, vehicles, pool plant duties and wider site-team tasks when required.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

Key responsibilities

  • Planned and reactive building maintenance across the school site.
  • Basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry, making-good and general building repair tasks.
  • Emergency lighting checks, fire-safety checks, legionella monitoring and associated documentation.
  • Late-day classroom and site maintenance after teaching spaces become available.
  • Gutter and gully maintenance as part of a planned twice-yearly cycle.
  • Grounds support, including machinery use after appropriate training.
  • Vehicle checks and minibus presentation standards.
  • Pool plant support following training, where required.
  • Support for school events, deliveries, contractors and two-person practical tasks.

Safeguarding and safer recruitment

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.

Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school ahead of submitting an application. Please apply using the school’s application form, available from the school website vacancy page or by contacting the school office.

Please apply using the school application form on the vacancies section of the school website, or contact the school office on 01963 33234 or hr@marchant-holliday.co.uk.
