Position Purpose:
The Head of BIM provides strategic and operational leadership for TAIT's Building Information Modeling competency, ensuring BIM supports high-quality design, coordination, fabrication, and delivery across the business.
Reporting to the Digital Asset Management Director, this role leads the BIM team, including BIM Managers and BIM Coordinators, and establishes the standards, systems, governance, and capability required for consistent project delivery.
The role partners with design, engineering, technology, and project-delivery leaders to develop and execute TAIT's BIM strategy, translate business needs into practical roadmaps, and improve the lifecycle value of digital project information.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Digital Asset Management Director to define, implement, and continuously improve TAIT's enterprise BIM strategy, roadmap, governance model, and investment priorities.
- Establish and maintain BIM standards, protocols, templates, libraries, model requirements, and quality-assurance processes that support consistent delivery across projects and locations.
- Own the BIM operating model, including resource planning, team structure, workload balancing, performance management, recruitment, and succession planning.
- Provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership for BIM execution, coordination, clash management, model review, information exchange, and issue-resolution practices.
- Work with design, engineering, manufacturing, project management, and technology teams to align BIM workflows with delivery processes, data standards, and digital asset-management objectives.
- Guide the selection, configuration, adoption, and lifecycle management of BIM platforms and connected tools, including common data environments and collaboration workflows.
- Create and maintain BIM implementation plans, playbooks, training materials, and change-management activities to drive adoption and consistent use of agreed practices.
- Define and monitor BIM performance measures, including model quality, coordination outcomes, adoption, rework reduction, and delivery efficiency; communicate progress and risks to leadership.
- Build productive relationships with internal stakeholders, project partners, clients, and technology vendors to identify opportunities, resolve escalations, and advance BIM capability.
- Stay current with BIM standards, technology, automation, interoperability, and industry practice; identify practical innovations that improve TAIT delivery and information-management maturity.
- Perform assigned duties according to company policies, safety requirements, information-security expectations, and professional standards.
- Lead, coach, and develop the BIM team, including BIM Managers and BIM Coordinators; set clear objectives, build capability, and promote an inclusive, accountable, high-performing culture.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree-level qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Digital Construction, the Built Environment or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional, vocational or industry experience.
- Demonstrable senior-level experience in BIM, information management, digital construction, VDC, design technology, architecture, engineering or construction, including proven experience leading BIM or information-management teams and developing organisational capability.
- Proven experience leading BIM platforms, common data environments (CDEs), digital collaboration and interoperability initiatives within a complex, multidisciplinary project-delivery environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing BIM and information-management strategies, standards, governance frameworks, implementation roadmaps and change programmes across multiple projects, teams or locations.
- Strong working knowledge of BS EN ISO 19650 and associated UK information-management practices, including information requirements, BIM Execution Plans, information delivery planning, common data environments, model and information review, and information exchange.
- Advanced knowledge of BIM authoring, coordination and review workflows, with strong working proficiency in platforms such as Revit, Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud, or equivalent BIM and common data environment technologies.
- Proven experience leading and developing BIM Managers, BIM Coordinators and multidisciplinary project teams, with the ability to establish clear direction, build capability, manage performance and balance competing project and business priorities.
- Strong understanding of model-based delivery, information requirements, interoperability, clash detection and coordination, quality assurance and quality control, and the relationship between design information, engineering, fabrication, installation and project delivery.
- Strong understanding of classification, data structures, naming and information standards relevant to UK BIM and information-management delivery.
- Experience establishing BIM and information-management governance, including model assurance, information-quality processes, approval and authorisation workflows, data integrity and appropriate security-minded information-management practices.
- Understanding of digital asset and lifecycle information management, including the transition of project information into operational and asset-management environments.
- Awareness of UK building-safety and project-information requirements relevant to BIM and digital delivery, including digital record and "golden thread" requirements where applicable to the project.
- Ability to translate business, client and project requirements into practical BIM and information-management strategies, standards, systems and measurable improvement plans.
- Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, technical specialists, project teams, clients, delivery partners and technology providers.
