About the Role
The Head of IT Business Systems is accountable for the strategy, delivery, and performance of all business systems that underpin a nationwide, next day parcel delivery network.
This role leads a hybrid systems landscape comprising SaaS solutions, and internally developed applications, ensuring systems are integrated, scalable, resilient, and aligned to operational and strategic objectives.
You will lead business systems, internal development teams, and business intelligence capabilities, enabling real time operations including order management, routing, sortation, and customer experience. The role is critical in ensuring systems can scale to meet demand, support growth, drive operational excellence, continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
· Define and deliver the business systems architecture and roadmap aligned to strategic and operational goals.
· Own initiatives across all business systems platforms including order management, routing, optimisation, tracking, billing and consumer facing applications.
· Proactively identify opportunities to enhance, replace, or integrate systems to improve performance, efficiency and security.
· Own the business systems budget, including cost optimisation, total cost of ownership, and investment planning.
· Manage strategic relationships with third party vendors, SaaS providers, and system integrators holding partners accountable for performance and value.
· Oversee prioritisation and delivery of large scale system change delivered by third parties, and internal delivering bespoke applications, integrations, and enhancements.
· Lead vendor selection, contract management, and ongoing commercial optimisation.
· Deliver high quality, scalable solutions that support rapid operational change.
· Own the data strategy including governance, data quality, master data management, and data architecture to ensure trusted, consistent, and accessible information across the organisation.
· Own the business intelligence and data capability, enabling insight driven decision making.
· Act as a key interface between IT and senior operational, commercial, and executive stakeholders.
· Ensure business needs are clearly understood, prioritised, and delivered.
· Provide structured communication on roadmaps, delivery, risks, and performance.
· Act as escalation point for major incidents impacting operations or customers.
· Ensure systems are secure, resilient, and compliant
· Ensure effective change management, business adoption, and benefits realisation for all system initiatives.
· Own service reliability, availability, and performance, including SLAs, monitoring, incident management, and continual service improvement.
· Ensure robust business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities for all critical business systems.
What You’ll Bring
· Significant experience in a senior IT leadership role focused on business systems / enterprise applications.
· Experience within transport, logistics, parcel delivery, or supply chain environments.
· Proven track record managing outsourced platforms and third party delivery partners.
· Experience leading and developing internal teams delivering integrated solutions.
· Strong understanding of systems integration, APIs, and complex application ecosystems.
· Experience delivering business intelligence and data capabilities.
· Demonstrated ability to lead large scale transformation and system implementation initiatives.
· Strong stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills.
Desirable Skills
· Experience with enterprise platforms (e.g. ERP, CRM) and logistics systems (TMS, WMS).
· Sound understanding of cyber security, secure by design principles and data protection
· Familiarity with development and collaboration tools (e.g. Jira/Confluence/GIT based systems).
· Familiarity with cloud Infrastructure such as Microsoft Azure, AWS and fundamental infrastructure concepts such as compute capacity, storage and network principles.
