Optical Assistant

We are looking for an trainee or experienced Optical Assistant to join our busy franchised practice in Buxton, with occasional work in Stockport. Candidates must be passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and be able to work professionally within our friendly team!

The Optical Assistant role: The role requires assisting the Optometrist, by performing pre-screening examinations, and liaising between the patient and Optometrist. You will provide information to customers, using Optometrist recommendations to help them select the best products and services to ensure patients see, look and feel better than they ever thought possible. You will get the opportunity to learn new skills, including the use of Optical coherence tomography(OCT) in practice.

Optical Assistant responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism
  • Have excellent product knowledge and stay up to date with new lens technology and frame style trends
  • Accurately operate the computer sales system and accounts for all transactions
  • Attentive to details; reviews prescriptions and identifies special needs, consulting with an Optometrist when necessary
  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and customer volume

Optical Assistant qualifications and skills:

  • Management skills welcomed
  • Computer savvy
  • Ideally 1 years optical experience, will consider trainee/apprentice
  • Strong communication & listening skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Team player and pro-active
  • Highly adaptable
