Salary: £29,094 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Active Luton Sites

Active Luton is a community wellbeing trust offering leisure and sport, health and wellbeing, community outreach, training and education and Luton’s library services. We want to make sure everyone in Luton has the right access and opportunity to get active and improve wellbeing and quality of life.

About the role

Active Luton has an exciting opportunity available for a passionate and motivated individual to assist in the development and delivery of health and physical activities within the community. You will be supporting adults and young people with mental and physical conditions with a focus on long-term conditions, such as COPD, Cancer and Cardiovascular disease.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in health, social or community care, working in direct contact with service users. You will need good communication skills, and be able to use Excel, Word and competently collect data and input it.

Travel between sites will be required and will include regular evening work and occasional weekends.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the planning, development and delivery of an inclusive range of high-quality sessions, in particular those associated with, Exercise Referrals, Long Term Conditions such as COPD, Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease, smoking and healthy lifestyles programmes within Active Luton facilities and other community settings.
  • Develop and support the implementation of well-structured and progressive behaviour change programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable experience centred around the needs of the participants.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks associated within the health remit, including the monitoring and evaluation of all sessions and auditing individuals’ impact and outcomes are carried out.
  • Supervise, mentor and direct staff and volunteers who may assist in the delivery of activities and assist in the setting up, dismantling, maintenance and security of equipment and the environment.
  • Maintain effective and positive working relationships with Active Luton’s, key partners.

Skills

  • Appropriate REPS Level 3 Gym and fitness qualification and / or Certificate of competency in nutrition/smoking/health checks or equivalent experience.
  • Current Level 1 and / or 2 qualification in sport specific coaching would be desirable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of relevant Governing body programmes, policies and practices including safeguarding and Health and Safety
  • Experience of planning, organising and documenting at least one of the following; sports and leisure activities and/or health and wellbeing activities for specific groups and coaching and mentoring individuals and groups.
  • Ability to deal politely and tactfully with diplomacy to a wide range of people that may have vulnerabilities. Being able to encourage and motivate them to change behaviours.
  • Ability to come up with alternative recommendations and adaptations to individual health plans.
  • Ability to work within established procedures, guidelines, and quality standards. Ensuring compliance and effective progress is met with groups/individuals.
