Based in Glasgow / Hybrid

sportscotland is the national agency for sport in Scotland. Our vision is an active Scotland where everyone benefits from sport. Our goal is to be inclusive by design.

Are you passionate about helping people use data and research to make better decisions?

Do you want to apply your research skills to help the people of Scotland get the most from the sporting system?

sportscotland is currently looking for a Senior Research Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver research and evaluation that supports strategic decision making across sportscotland and the wider sport sector. You will work closely with colleagues and external partners to generate evidence that informs policy, investment and service improvement.

You will have skills and experience in both quantitative and qualitative research. Research is only useful if people use it, so you’ll need strong communication skills. You will need to engage people to use findings to inform decision making.

You will have experience of leading research and evaluation projects from design through to delivery, managing multiple priorities and building effective relationships with stakeholders. Experience of line management, leading project groups, or managing externally commissioned research projects would be advantageous.

As part of the research team, you will help deliver sportscotland's research strategy through monitoring and evaluation, research project management, stakeholder engagement and capability building. You'll provide expert advice to colleagues and partners, helping ensure research and evidence drive continuous improvement across the sport sector.

We operate a hybrid working model, and you'll be expected to work from our Glasgow office a minimum of two days each week.

* Please note successful candidates will be appointed at the entry point of the salary band.

How to apply

Please apply online and attach your CV and covering letter detailing why you meet the requirements, by the closing date of 9th August 2026.

We anticipate interviews will take place 19th / 20th August 2026.

Employee benefits

We offer a strong benefits package including hybrid working, 32 days annual leave plus 6.5 public holidays (38.5 days total) on entry, Cycle2Work, employee discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, Local Government Pension Scheme and support for professional development.

Disability Confident Employer

We are a Disability Confident employer. If you have any difficulties with your application because of a disability, please contact hr.recruitment@sportscotland.org.uk and we will discuss how we can help you.
