We're looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly multidisciplinary outpatient team, working across our Day Surgery Units in Cobham and Epsom.

Whether your background is in outpatient care, day surgery, GP practice, community healthcare or an acute hospital, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Healthcare Assistant, you'll play an essential role in delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality care to patients attending our ophthalmology and specialist outpatient clinics.

Working alongside experienced nurses and consultants, you'll support patients throughout their journey while developing valuable clinical skills in a professional and rewarding environment.

Typical working hours are 7.5-hour shifts between 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday work available at an enhanced rate.

What You'll Be Doing

General Clinical Duties

Once competency has been achieved, you'll also support with:

  • Patient observations
  • Blood pressure, pulse and temperature
  • Height, weight and BMI
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Venepuncture
  • Urinalysis
  • ECG recording
  • Patient admissions
  • Endoscopy decontamination

Ophthalmology Clinics

Following competency-based training, you'll undertake a range of specialist investigations including:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Visual Fields
  • Auto Refraction
  • Biometry
  • Ophthalmic Pre-assessment

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

You'll also:

  • Support clinicians during patient consultations and procedures
  • Act as a patient chaperone where required
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Prepare clinical areas and ensure equipment is clean and safe
  • Maintain stock levels and order supplies
  • Help create a welcoming, safe environment for patients and visitors
  • Identify and report concerns promptly
  • Support new team members
  • Participate in ongoing learning and quality improvement initiatives

  • Able to work across both our Cobham and Epsom sites
  • Live within a reasonable commuting distance

Desirable

  • Previous Healthcare Assistant experience
  • Full UK driving licence
